Good Morning!

I'm in town for Christmas and wanted to take my friends on a little Houston Ale Trail while I'm home.

Starting and ending in Katy. Can't go too far east of Houston due to timing.

1. 8th Wonder
2. Buffalo Bayou
3. 8 Row Flint (apparently a cool bar)
4. Eureka Heights
5. No Label Brewery

Finally some good Tex-Mex and Margs at las mananitas in Katy!

Any suggestions?

Skip No label and go to The Growler Spot in fulshear and/or Crafted Kitchen and Taps in Katy

If you are going to 8th wonder, hit True Anomaly too, it's a block towards 59 from 8th W.

Might as well hit the OG, Saint Arnold while downtown.

I'd skip Urban South, unless you like chewing through fruited Metamucil beer.

Eureka Heights would be a good stop in town.

There's a new brewery in jersey village, Senate Ave brewing if you want a NW side spot. Beer is okay, but a nice spot with a good patio.

Of course there's Brash if they're easily offended.

St. A is really nice, as is Buff Bayou. I'm a fan of Great Heights and Eureka Heights, which are decently close to each other.

If ending in Katy then No Label is a good spot. You can also hit up MKT Distillery, which is next door in the original No Label spot.

Remind of Senate? That's owned and operated by a couple veterans right?

Try Holler- Nice view of downtown with a lot of street art on the backside of the building. They have Czech style beers. Buffalo is a nice view, but the beers not so much. I'd also skip Platypus

Yeah, owner is the former mayor of jersey village. They do flights, have bar food & several guest taps. Small operation. You could parlay it over to Klaus Brewing on Jones Rd for some German brews after, they have a good patio and usually a food truck.

How you gonna skip Saint Arnold?!

Park there, have a few, then rent a bike and go to 8W, Equal Parts (Sigma), UTR, Buffalo, Platypus, Holler, and Urban Yankee.

Eureka, New Magnolia, Brash and Great Heights are good Timbergrove/OF spots too.

Just go to HEB or Specs and get a bunch of Houston beers and drink them on the driveway while grilling and playing lawn games. More fun than trekking around town.

I'd skip going to 8 Row Flint as its just a bar with a decent selection and add in New Magnolia as a suggestion.

Some people like getting out of the house. Especially on the third or fourth day of a family holiday.

Did Buffalo bayou actually start making decent beers?
And it's been a year since I've been but true anomaly had some great beers when I was there. Rocket scientists know how to make good beer, go figure.

Not really, but they have a nice cool building/setup

I can't tell you the last time I had a BB beer

BB makes some good dark/stout brews. Love their coffee flavored beer wake n bake. Of course More Cowbell is solid.

If I have an out of town guest, I still take them to Karbach. It may have been bought out but it's still a H Town staple and it's only going to continue to grow.

From St Arnolds you can go past some nice street art and the colorful underside of the new viaduct up to Local Group Brewing. Great location and view, I don't know about their beers.

your loss. All the good breweries are east of EaDo... or EaOEaDo as we locals like to call it.

More Cowbell is about the only BB brew I buy these days.

Also, to the OP, snag a few Elissa IPAs and Christmas Ales, mix em together and you have the original Sailing Santa.

Great Heights and Walking Stick are across the street from each other and serve good beer.

Lot of suggestions being thrown out, but what kind of beers do you like, OP? A lot of breweries are good at certain things, not so great at others. For example, Urban South, which someone mentioned above, does a lot of experimental ones, mostly fruited sours, with some IPAs mixed in.

A few recommendations based on beer types:
  • Urban South - Sours, but only if you want something kind of off the wall
  • Eureka Heights - Overall Variety
  • Brash - Heavy Stouts (also, if you like your IPAs really hoppy)
  • Great Heights - Pizza (seriously, the pizza truck there is one of the best pizzas in the city). Their Hazy IPAs are good too
  • Buffalo Bayou - Different flavors of Stouts and Belgian Styles. They still claim the most creative brewery, but I'd say Ingenious and B52 have surpassed them in creativity and quality, but you'd have to drive out to Kingwood/Conroe for those.
  • Klaus - German Style

Crazy seeing the number of tine breweries now. Gone are the days where your choices were basically St Arnold off dacoma, the original small Karbach spot and the small Buffalo bayou brewery warehouse spot (didn't even know they built a new large spot). And then southern star if you wanted to drive up to Conroe.

Yep, around 20 breweries within bike distance for me.
