Whatever floats your boat, but if simply because a product is made in X location you think its better....sure, I guess.
Do you know of any boudin made in Houston as good as south Louisiana that you can suggest we try?
Or are you just wowing us with today's entry on the Contrarian Dork Fact-a-Day Calendar?
Heberts
Holmes
DJ's
All as good as anything I've had at whatever crack shack everybody raves about in south LA.
Simply because you are in a specific location doesn't mean that something is automatically better - it just means you are eating something in a specific location. Just like buffalo wings aren't magically better in Buffalo, NY than they are in Houston, TX or that clam chowder isn't magically better in Boston, MA than it is in wherever else.
I contend you do a true blind taste test with the folks that swear that XYZ brand out of Bumfck, Louisiana is infinitely better than ABC brand in Houston and they would likely not know the difference at all.
I'll try Hebert's - sounds like it is pretty good. I've had Holmes and DJ's and they weren't as good in my opinion. It's probably just personal preference.
I will agree with you in principle on location, but you have to agree the farther away from a food's origin you get the less the chances of it being authentic or tasting as good. If someone told you they had the best, most authentic tasting, Texas BBQ or Tex Mex from a restaurant in Sweden, would you just assume it was totally legit? There's less variability or ways to mess up chicken wings - so I am with you there. But I'd make an argument about clam chowder, or gumbo for that matter.
Houston is better than most when it comes to boudin. I'd trust it here over El Paso, or Cincinnati. I don't think you can get great Boudin in New Orleans or Shreveport for that matter. there may be an exception, but for the best and my taste I want a select few.
Oh and I have had a blind taste test with some people at my plant, Coleman's boudin (Iota La) versus Nick's Grocery (Port Arthur) and Coleman's won hands down. Colemans is probably a good solid 7-8 down my list in Louisiana. A guy I knew from Port Arthur swore up and down Nicks was the best and excellent and as good as anything in Louisiana. So, some of it is personal taste, but I'd put up the best of Louisiana against anything in Houston and feel pretty confident.
