Yeah my folks (74 and 71) are big church goers, my dad typically goes to daily mass M-Th, and two weeks ago they decided it might be a good time to skip mass for a while. Pretty sure God isn't going to get offended.

News this morning was reporting 10 hour waits at drive through testing locations yesterday.

There's no way that many people have symptoms right? That has to be idiot ass people going to get tested just to get tested right?

Well, on March 8 a lot of people were still traveling for spring break, getting on planes, going to the rodeo, schools hadn't closed, yet, etc.

SHTF here around March 11.

We sent an employee that has symptoms yesterday to one of the testing locations. He got there 30 mins before it opened and waited in line 5 hours before he finally gave up and went home. He said he barely moved at all in the line. He said there were tons of arguments and people getting out of their cars yelling at each other because people were trying to cut in line.

He wanted to go back today and was trying to get there at 6am to get a head start on the line.

Same here. Looks like private testing has hit the local market.

Based on the video you do a virtual visit followed by a curbside test. Cost is $200 out of pocket if insurance does not cover it.

My wife's immune system is crap, so she's not going to the grocery store.

I can't make it until Sunday morning, at best. I'm hoping the things we need will be there.

Went to an HEB in Katy for normal shopping and they had pretty much everything. No chicken, but plenty of of beef and pork, fruits and veggies, milk, bread etc. The only thing they seemed to be low on, of course, was tp. We didn't need any, but saw they had a limit on the amount you could get with an employee there handing it out.

Lines seemed very long but we got through rather quickly.

I guarantee that there a large number of people who are in the lines for the express purpose of documenting it on social media. Thinking that their experience of getting tested for this thing is something that their "followers" really need to know about. And in the jacked up psychology that is social media, I am sure that people are watching and commenting, which validates the behavior of the person in line.

That same person will probably then produce a long diatribe post about how the people who need it can't get the testing that they need. All the while passively blaming others and lacking the consciousness to understand that they are directly contributing to that.

All for the likes. 2020. It's fun.

Still okay in my area. Kroger and HEB are short on:

TP
Paper Towels
Ramen
Pasta
Bread

Everything else has been ok to get. I even managed to grab paper towels a couple days ago since we were actually out of them.

Our HEB had fresh produce, but they are limiting what types are available. Only one type of apple, berries, a few bananas, salad in bags only, green peppers (no red or yellow), pineapple, avocado, cherry tomatoes packed in the plastic containers with a film lid, and that was about it. No mushrooms, squash, broccoli heads, onions, potatoes, etc.

TP and paper towel aisle was still completely bare.

Cereal was hit and miss, depending on what you like.

Dairy was pretty well stocked.

Bread aisle was full, but the selection was very limited. Just basic white and wheat bread. No specialty brands, flavors, English muffins, bagels, etc.

Meat was ok. I was looking for something specific that was sold out, but they had ground beef, chicken, and pork.

Wine selection was still going strong!

If you're in the Heights area, I'd be happy to help. Work from home and I'm on a Chinese/Europe work clock. I'll be wrapped up by 1ish.

heb has delivery service with full safety precautions

Quote:

Home delivery
updates from H-E-B
In light of crucial social distancing efforts related to COVID-19 (coronavirus), we are now implementing doorstep delivery for 100% of our home delivery orders.

Upon arrival with your doorstep delivery order, your driver will now leave all groceries at your front door. No customer signature will be required.

With this update, beer and wine will no longer be available for purchase through our home delivery service. This temporary change is to further reduce potential contact, eliminating the need for customers to show identification to delivery drivers. Beer and wine are still available for curbside pickup orders.

These added measures are being taken to ensure the safety of our Customers and home delivery Partners as we continue our efforts to #SlowTheSpreadTexas.

If you are the recipient of doorstep delivery, don't forget to store any cold items right away after your groceries arrive!

Please note that due to the increase in demand, time slot availability varies by store. We are actively working each day to add additional timeslots to better serve our customers.

1st death in Harris County

Quote:

An elderly man who tested positive for COVID-19 has died, becoming the first death in Harris County.

The patient, who was between 80 and 90 years old, was a resident of a nursing home in the northwest part of the county.

"He was, unfortunately, at high risk for serious COVID-19 complications due to his age and underlying health conditions," Harris County Public Health stated, adding the patient died on March 18.

Just tried to get some ribs at HEB at Spring Cypress and Grant in Cypress. They're letting 20-30 people in line and there's a line of 50 people huddled together under an awning waiting to get in.

And they're all breathing on each other, in very close proximity, instead of disbursed inside the store.

But it's ok, because this is safer.

I'm up in Chicago and have been going out for normal shopping these past weeks.
Just got back from shopping for weekend stuff (I always have a stock of food and other supplies so I just keep to a normal schedule to keep everything good).

I think, up here the panic buying and stocking-up has subsided.
The stores are still bare in some things, but are re-stocking every day.
I think the issue, at least up here, is more that many people ate out all or most of the time. So now that they are having to cook, the stores can't keep up with demand.
And with schools being closed so parents actually have top feed their crotch fruit, the demand has shifted from restaurants and schools needing supplies to grocery stores.

Kroger in Katy/99 had plenty of stuff minus bread and canned goods. plenty of frozen foods. plenty of meat although they had a sign saying you can't purchase more than two of any item.

Can't speak on the TP.

In general you just have to ask the store when their next truck comes in and plan your next trip accordingly.

Supposedly, they'll be manning the testing sites along with HPD.

Don't kill the messenger - this is what I heard from an HPD cop.
