People that I know that have not left their house for 6 months and will still leave their mail outside for days on end are signing up for this in droves. Healthy 30 and 40 year olds.

Yeah, I don't understand how many from the "we can't open anything ever again because even if most people get very mild symptoms from COVID, we don't know what the longterm effects will be" crowd is willing to be first in line to receive a rushed vaccine.

Idk, I'm tempted. Vaccines aren't live and don't cause infection.

Probably more of a hassle than I'm willing to deal with, though.

I won't do the trial but I probably will get it once one is approved and available

How in the hell would some blowhard liberal from the New York Times know what it is like living in Houston?

From that website:
To develop a COVID vaccine, the FDA, drug manufacturers, and researchers across the country are all working together to fast track the normally years-long process down to just weeks.

Key thing for Houston is that he showcased that we went from 8% into Phase 2 capacity to to 5% of Phase 2 capacity based on current trends.

Getting out all together of Phase 2, SHOULD be a huge story, not that the media or our "leaders" are likely to report it.

I didn't notice anything terribly egregious in the NYT article. Poor people are less likely to have jobs where remote work or distancing is an option. Nothing terribly insightful there. It would be interesting to understand if the demographic trend held in NYC, but it's probably a little harder to analyze data by zip code there due to the concentration of people

Same
Article did not really say anything that would not be expected. Main thing I thought, appears the city is not really helping poor neighborhoods with masks and anything else that could be beneficial.

Short of paying them to stay home, I'm not sure what you could do.

They can't make schools do anything but it does ensure schools that decide to go online only get full funding because they are following instruction of public health officials.

Will be interesting to see what Tomball does. I think they're one of the last harris county districts offering in person from day 1.

From what I've seen Humble ISD has day-1 in-person plans. My kids (5th & 1st grades) will be there in person.

I am surprised it took the NYT this long to make it about the social struggle.

Tomball sent an email this morning saying they will be online-only until at least Sept 15.

It seems a lot of their stuff isn't really satire anymore and hits a lot closer than we ever thought it would.

Hoping Lamar Consolidated holds out and sticks to their guns. Choose either all online or all in-school, starting day 1 on Aug. 22

Well unfortunately Klein did the same as Tomball and caved. All online school starting Aug 19

I'm hoping they just did this to pander to the county a little to not get pushback, show it's a mess for elementary, and then on Sept 9th start in person school.

Bc it's not like the county is going to issue a new letter by that time, saying All good!

Get ready because there will be a Labor Day spike that will be blamed on back to school, then the shutdown can continue until mid October.

My maid tested positive for COVID a couple weeks ago. She is recovered and tested negative. When is it ok to allow her back into my home? No one at my house has had it that we know of? I tentatively have her coming back Next Thursday July 30th
