Good luck. Haven't done much research this morning but the radar looks better for Houston at least for the next few hours. Hopefully we can get out of Charlotte on time and miss the afternoon rain.

It never ceases to amaze me the number of people year after year that drive their cars right into a flood.

You've got to be one dumb mofo in this day and age to not have heard the warnings or seen the news of other people doing it.

I know you think you're funny, but a few areas got a lot of rain yesterday on already saturated grounds and several ISDs are closed from the water. Couple that with the high percentage of more storms today and people are playing it cautious so they don't have to possibly spend hours trying to get home again or risk losing a vehicle. I'll be honest, the thought of working from the house crossed my mind this morning, but I decided to come in. I'll have the radar up today, and as soon as I see a big yellow or red area going towards my house, I'm packing up and leaving.

I see this going one of two ways for Kingwood. Either people stop listening to the NIMBY tree worshippers and build a few more substantial ways to get out of the place, or a significant percentage of people are going to leave.

On the plus side, protesting HCAD ought to be really easy.

Don't think they were under water but weren't moving. I left about 3:20 yesterday to head home and called a guy at work who lives in Kings Point, and the asshat had already left and was in Humble. His plan was to go 59 to Kingwood Dr or North Park, but I pulled up Google Maps to see what road conditions were like and what was closed, and decided to take 8 to Wilson to Atascocita Rd and go up WLHP. Waze told me the same thing. Took me a little over 2 hours to get home while he was stuck in traffic until at least 8 last night around 59 and Kingwood Dr.

why would they be closed? most, if not all of Katy ISD got less than 3 inches of rain yesterday. Correct me if I am wrong, but the hardest hit areas where Sugarland and north up around Kingwood

They need to quit building in what little land is left. They've cleared the area next to the HEB and are looking to develop it. They need to just make that a retention pond and leave it be. IIRC, the apartments they demolished for HEB had a lake in it, which probably absorbed some of the runoff that now has nowhere to go. Then there's the neighborhood at Mills Branch and Lake Houston Pkwy. Tons of dirt was brought in to build that place up.

As far as roads in/out...Northpark sucks now that they've built the shopping center there at 59, but I've heard there's plans to make an overpass over the RR tracks, so that may help. But the head scratching thing is there's no plans to add a fly over to go from NP straight to 59S...they're going to put you right back in the traffic so you can turn into the shopping centers. I wish they'd do something similar to 45/1960 there.

They're also building the GP east of 59 right now, and looking at the maps, it would be great to connect North Park or WLHP to it so there's an additional way to get out in the back. Granted, it would have to be an elevated road/bridge due to the land there, but it'll be something. Right now, it's either WLKP to 1960 or Ford Rd.

That's Humble ISD as well. I texted my wife to see how things were and she said it's a ghost town and the student lot is empty. They didn't close but did say that being absent wouldn't count against you, so many students saw it as a day to sleep in and do nothing.

All new commercial construction is required to have a retention pond.....I think.

That pond that went away with the clearing for the HEB will be back in some form, but it is sorely being missed at the moment.

I'm truly surprised it is wasn't the first thing built after clearing as the storm utilities are very important to the SWPPP.

I honestly didn't see how much rain they got. But it made me chuckle when I saw their announcement.

My freshman year at Katy high we had massive storms. They didn't cancel school. Get to school as buses are already crossing deep water in roads. Power goes out first period.

That sat us all in the hallways saying it was too dangerous to cancel school at this point. Well it was too dangerous until the required attendance time passed around 10:30-11am.

There is a new Perry homes neighborhood being developed(just cleared) north of Sherwood & elm grove. What area had the majority of the flooding yesterday and DIDN'T flood during Harvey? Elm Grove!

What part of Elm Grove flooded? When I was a kid there were always areas that flooded, especially around the school.

I made it out of forest cove just fine this morning. Took Hamlin. The turnaround under the highway is closed, but water wasn't over the road yet.

We however have been without power since 1 yesterday.

Just heard on radio more raid expected around noonish

Yeah, I've thought about that as well. There's a FB group that was set up after Harvey called "Flooding Kingwood with Kindness" and many on there have pointed that out as well. I'm sure some of it has to do with the amount of rain in a short time, but the developments going in has to also be a big contributor.
