Is the Pappas BBQ burger good at every location or specific ones? I'm thinking of swinging by the one at Gessner and Westheimer.
Must be specific ones. I went to try one today and left unimpressed. Not a bad burger by any means, but nothing whatsoever to write home over.

Not sure but I've had it at a couple it's generally pretty good everywhere. The Gessner/Westheimer location is my home location too.

Just tried one today.. Hilcroft and 59 loc. Really good burger. The way they fixed it, actually reminded me of a great loaded Whataburger somewhat when whataburger is on point. Sleeper burger for sure, but by no means near the best in town. Will definitely have it again.

- Can you order a single patty?
- Are the two patties together considered a 1/2 pounder?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a BBQ place has a good burger. The burger at Mckenzie's BBQ in Conroe is one of my favorites.

Another one not in Houston, but we tried Burger Fresh in Conroe after a 2-3 year break. It is in my top five in the area.
McKenzie's is legit.

My dad, who recently passed, lived in the retirement home across Gladstell from Burger Fresh. He loved a good burger, and that place never disappointed. Although I did have to warn him against walking across Gladstell with his walker just to get a burger, no matter how good it was.

Not the best, but if you want to try an excellent "different" burger Flipin Patties on Eldridge is really unique (all their food is great). Love the Asian inspired bread / Bao / bun.

For regular burger I'm a big fan of Tornado burger spicy.

Also others mentioned like Stantons, Sams pies, etc. Prefer thin and flat top seared.

Anyone been to House of Fries on Antoine? It appears to be an old Jack in the Box.

While not the best burger in town...it's a damn good meal and cheap.
"damn good"

C & D Burger Shoppe off of Fuqua. It's been in business around South Houston for over 40 years already.

They are pretty solid. I compare them a lot to Shuttle Burger just around the corner from them. Nothing extremely fancy, but you won't have a bad burger there by any stretch, and prices aren't out of this world for what you get either.

haven't had that in years. but I tried it soon after it came out and it was simply incredible. a second visit was also excellent. the third time I had it, the magic was somehow gone. it had gone from transcendent to merely pretty good. haven't been back since. but I'd love to give it another shot.

You have just run into the law of diminishing returns.
The first time you had it, it was amazing. The second time was still very good, every bit as good as the first time.
By the time you went the third time, the magic was gone. It was still very good, just not the transcendent experience as the first time.

That's why those fancy restaurants serve multi course, small plate dinners. You don't need more than three bites to get maximum enjoyment of a dish.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I remember it being overcooked vs the previous ones that were still nice and pink inside.

On Pappas, yes you can order a single patty burger, I do not recommend the double patty, that is a beast.

I ordered the single, was charged for a single, but got a double. All bets are off...

The "single" is a double thin patty.

The "double" has 4 thin patties.

Honorable mention - The Spartan Burger at Bakkhus Tavern in Kemah is phenomenal.

It's a Kobe Beef burger with garlic sauted spinach and some sort of cheese I can't pronounce on it.
Add Fire Feta to it and you'll be happy you made the drive.

.I have an uncle who also happens to be my dentist, and as it so happens, my daughter has an appointment to see him for a cavity next week. He is in Lake Jackson. Looks like I'll be stopping at the Dairy Bar for a yummy burger. And a milk shake.

Yup - the double loaded there is ridiculously good if anyone wants to give it a go.

M&M is severely underrated - would love to see them expand but doubt they will.
