For those that love the burger at Pappas BBQ: would you agree that the BBQ at Pappas BBQ is horrible?

There's likely a better place less than 5 minutes from every Pappas BBQ, but I'd not go so far as to call it horrible.

dumb.

a griddle gets you the most contact for maillard reaction.
So?

1. Stanton's - secret, they probably haven't cleaned their grill since 1961

2. Close 2nd - B&B Butchers. Owner perfected it while eating at Stanton's every day while B&B's was built. Great burger at only twice the price.

3. Goode Company Tagueria - Yes. Great burger.

My kids love Fuddrucker's for the video games and shakes and I don't think the Goode Co. burger is any better. It's just a lot more expensive.

The fries at Fudd's stick suck though.

more crispy outside. the only benefit of an open flame is some smoke taste. it's pretty dumb to think only burgers cooked on a flame are worth eating. reminds me of the people that would get superior over charcoal vs. gas.

you're like the burger version of kolache dork.

Burger Tex is as good for half the price. No games though.

half the price of Fuddruckers? Doubtful. I think the combo is like 8 bucks

Half the price of the regular adult meal. Last I ate there it was like $16 for a burger and fries.

Yes. Their pork ribs occasionally hit the spot and I like their French fried and spicy rice, but the BBQ in general is not good

The truth lies somewhere in between I'd think. Fudds is respectable as is Burger Tex. I disagree on the fries at Fudds though. I love the wedges.

Ima throw you guys for a loop and suggest Bakkhus down in Kemah. Their Red wine marinated Bakkhus burger with a sweet bun is awesome. Not a traditional burger, but great nonetheless.

Another place that is outside of town but worth the drive is the Jay Cafe in Needville. Fuggin awesome burgers there, especially the cheddar stuffed one.

I agree on Pappas BBQ burger. It is solid.. I actually like it better than Pappas Burgers which is solid as well.

Big fan of Bubba's burger. Double meat, double cheese, jalapeo potato salad and a bag of Zapps every time.

Sam's Burgers and Pies is good too.

I used to like Sam's Deli Diner (when it was in the original location) but something has changed there. Still good but different.

I've had several offerings at Joy Love in Katy that were among the best burgers I've ever had. We were recently in Tomball where Joy Love has opened another location. I had the Crazy Burger off that menu. It was crazy big and crazy delicious.

I grew up in Lake Jackson, where there is an old place called Dairy Bar that makes a good burger. Not sure I'd say it's the best, but I've always had a soft spot for that place (given that it was within walking distance from my grandparent's house and we always seemed to mozy on over there)

If I wanted to take someone from out of state to have what I'd consider a classic "Texas style" burger, I'd take them to Southwell's. That or Whataburger.

the best thing they make are their beef ribs. I think they are like 4 for 19.99. They are actually pretty dang good.

Their brisket is horrible though(if you are even the slightest of a BBQ snob)

Cliffs burger off of Fountain View. Maybe not the best burger in Houston, but as a hang over cure, it was definitely one of my favorites. I used to live across the street so was able to walk over and always rotated between the Murphy burger and the chicken fried steak sandwich.

I've tried to be a snob/connoisseur but can't really bring myself to do it. Excepting the few times that I've tried to eat stuff that was burned into crispy jerky by some ham-fisted relative too proud of his new grill, the worst brisket I have had is still tastier than the best non-fried chicken breast I've ever eaten. I'd rather isolate the meals that are going to make me fat to stuff that's better than Pappas brisket, but it still tastes better than probably 75% of what I eat on a regular basis.

When it comes to food my floor is high and ceiling low; it's just not going to make that much difference to me, but to each his own. Chicken breast comes across to me as an inert protein vehicle that can be used to convey whatever you put on it or around it.

This. Chicken breast is the white bread of proteins - boring, bland, benign, generic.

Don't get me started on filet....

Dairy Bar has always been and will always be solid, because it's home to me. And they use good ingredients, grind their own meat daily, etc. The original Smithharts on old 288 (before they got the divorce and before he opened up too many places) is still the single best burger I've ever had in my life. The one in Lake Jackson is still really good, the one in Angleton that the ex-wife owns just isn't the same to me and isn't as high quality.

Tookie's in Freeport was also awesome. Under the Bridge Bar in Demi Jon had an awesome burger as well, but it was not well known. Dorado's Dive Club by the ICW at Surfside has a damned good burger too.
