I've had several offerings at Joy Love in Katy that were among the best burgers I've ever had. We were recently in Tomball where Joy Love has opened another location. I had the Crazy Burger off that menu. It was crazy big and crazy delicious.

I grew up in Lake Jackson, where there is an old place called Dairy Bar that makes a good burger. Not sure I'd say it's the best, but I've always had a soft spot for that place (given that it was within walking distance from my grandparent's house and we always seemed to mozy on over there)
Dairy Bar has always been and will always be solid, because it's home to me. And they use good ingredients, grind their own meat daily, etc. The original Smithharts on old 288 (before they got the divorce and before he opened up too many places) is still the single best burger I've ever had in my life. The one in Lake Jackson is still really good, the one in Angleton that the ex-wife owns just isn't the same to me and isn't as high quality.

Tookie's in Freeport was also awesome. Under the Bridge Bar in Demi Jon had an awesome burger as well, but it was not well known. Dorado's Dive Club by the ICW at Surfside has a damned good burger too.
Rode my bike to Dairy Bar weekly.

holy crap. MM grill on almeda is actually pretty good. I mean, I wouldn't put it on my best burgers list, but I would put it at the top of my hidden gem list. Still looking for another mango habanero burger worth its salt.

I've never had the desire to eat there, and now I kind of want to try the burger based solely on my this thread.

Replace fries with onion rings.

BTW, what was the dairy queen knock off place that used to be in front of Albertsons where the Tokyo restaurant is now. They had the best steak finger basket.

^ he's not kidding with the burger from Pappas BBQ...a fall back is someone wants to go there as I don't care for their BBQ or sauce.

I would put Becks Prime and Buff Burger up in my top choices.

Really hard to pick "the best" as there are many varieties.
Had Beck's Prime last week.

Wasn't as good as I had remembered from years ago.

And coming from Fulshear, I had to drive past two better burgers to get there. Never again.

Beck's is overpriced for what you get. Not sure how they can compete with all the other (better) places that have popped up over the years.

Beck's burgers are better than average but nothing to write home about. Their fries, on the other hand, dominate.

Took the family to Willie's Ice House over the weekend. Pretty good burger, meh fries, but awesome rings. One of the few places it seems where you can get good, flour battered rings (as opposed to bread-crumb abominations) now that every Prince's in the city has closed.

I'm f'ing fat.

Yep, we had an interesting little enclave down in the Brazosport area back in the day. Most of those places are gone, some still around in one form or fashion. I don't make it down to LJ or Freeport all that often anymore even though I don't live all that far away. Still like to head down there on occasion though to hit up some old friends or will make sure I stop at a place like Dairy Bar if i'm in the area and it's convenient to eat.

Here's another one for you - Mendoza's. The original Hiippo. Best damned breakfast burrito you could get, everybody else is a pretender. There is another outfit that owns the place that Mendozas was at, still does burritos and what not, but still not the same.

Still wish Willie Joe's was still in business as well. Probably the best meals I've ever had at that crappy looking little joint - could literally open the menu, close your eyes and point and you'd not be disappointed at all. The chef there was phenomenal.

After reading most of this thread, I'll definitely have to try the burger at Pappas BBQ
- Can you order a single patty?
- Are the two patties together considered a 1/2 pounder?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a BBQ place has a good burger. The burger at Mckenzie's BBQ in Conroe is one of my favorites.

Another one not in Houston, but we tried Burger Fresh in Conroe after a 2-3 year break. It is in my top five in the area.

The two patties together are I think a 1/3 lb? Maybe a half... don't know but it's decent sized.

McKenzies is my number 2 burger actually, with Koppe Bridge being #1.

Is the Pappas BBQ burger good at every location or specific ones? I'm thinking of swinging by the one at Gessner and Westheimer.
