This thread led me to pappas bbq for a burger last week. Solid burger.

Yeah but shouldn't each slice of cheese be on top of its corresponding patty?

Pappas BBQ burger was solid.

Haven't seen M&M grill mentioned but it's excellent. Place has pretty damn good burgers, middle eastern and Mexican all under one roof.

Couple that I haven't seen mentioned:

Magic Burger off of College in South Houston. Solid burger, never had a bad one there.

Guru Burger in Sugar Land. Only went a few times, and it's been a while, but they had some interesting combinations. There was another place close to it that was similar to 5 Guys, but seemed to be a step or two better in overall quality and flavor that I can't remember the name of. It may be gone now for all I know.

The Pappa Bros BBQ joint burger is legit. Beck's Prime is as well.

I thought Hubcap was OK. Better than average, but definitely not worth going out of the way for.

Tookie's in Seabrook is on up there, as is Stomp's just down the road. Both make damned good burgers. Burger Barn off of Highway 6 in Manvel makes a kickass burger as well.

I'm trying to figure out what this would be. You aren't talking about Beck's Prime, are you?

Other close-ish places with burgers in the area: Live Oak Grill, Texan Grill

No, Beck's Prime is across the highway, Live Oak Grill is down the road (forgot about them, damn good burger and awesome cheese steak there too). This was just down the walk from Guru, Burger Fi I think was the name of the place. Looking on Google Earth, it's still there.

I've wasted too much time checking Yelp based on some of the suggestions in this thread.

Some of them appear to be very solid. But for others, based on the pics, I might as well head over to Burger Park on MLK.

I love Wimpy's, but I think the Otto's Super Cheese (double-double) in One Allen has it slightly beat. Wimpy's onion rings are legit, though, and it is worth it to give the great owner some biz once in a while.

As for the OP, I do love some old school faves - Annie's, Cliff's, Otto's, BBB. I'm also partial lately to burgers that are not the focus of the menu - Vallone's and Xochi have great burgers.

Best out of town burger I've had recently - the patty melt at Prasek's. Ho-Lee-Sheet.

Worst burger I've had in the past 5 years or so - Beaver's. Dry, bland, boring, and flavorless. But sustainable, I'm sure.

I liked Wimpy's until I discovered Otto's. That super cheeseburger is the best burger in that area that I have found.

I wondered about that place. They seemed to be doing a decent lunch business one random afternoon I was passing by when nothing else was busy.

In the Galleria area, Pete's Fine Meats makes a solid as hell burger too. Nothing fancy about the joint, but they make good food.

Pete's is pretty good. I made the mistake of ordering the double cheeseburger my first time there...pro tip- any burger or sandwich you order there is ****ing monstrous, very good though.

I work in Bellaire and frequent a lot of the places mentioned here and this is how I would rate them overall:

Pete's (good burgers, but also good deli sandwiches)
Bernie's
Broiler Burger
Annie's (good onion rings and Big Red on tap)
Bubbas (I haven't been in a while)

The Pappas BBQ burger is legit and I can't imagine doing double meat, holy hell I was satiated. I still prefer the Cease and Desist burger from Hay Merchant. The house made pickles just do it for me.
