That's not the only other possibility. It just seemed wet without much flavor. I'd rather go down the street to Bellaire Broiler Burger.

I mean I get what you are saying in the first sentence. But those descriptors from before perfectly fit a burger from BBB as well.

That is a burger that is better than it has any right to be.

I gotta say I wasn't impressed with Bernie's. I'll have to try it again with Schmendeler's suggestion RE the wax paper.

If I can admit to enjoying such a northern atrocity, their poutine WAS good.

I havent been to a handful of joints listed on this thread, but Bellaire Broiler Burger isnt anywhere near the top burgers in Houston. Maybe not even top 15...

Dark horse entry here...Wimpy's downtown

Agreed. Place never gets mentioned but is definately legit. If you work downtown, give this place a shot. If you have tunnel access, take the tunnels to the Hyatt Regency walk through the lobby and out the doors where the covered valet pick up is, walk outside on the street and around the corner.

Dude that runs the place is always there and takes pride in his store.

Ive eaten burgers there more than any other place in Houston that has been mentioned, partly bc of convenience.

Now that I think about it, I consider it the top burger in Houston IMO.

No frills, burger baskets and styrofoam cups. Good stuff.

Anyone been to House of Fries on Antoine? It appears to be an old Jack in the Box.

While not the best burger in town...it's a damn good meal and cheap.
In that area: House of Fries is good, Little Bitty Burger Barn was underwhelming, and MytiBurger was pretty good.

Disagree there. It tasted fine but it tasted way more like a pot roast than it did poutine

But if you like a big steaming greasy burger with the melted cheese dripping off, I guess it's the place for you.

There are people that don't like this?

I'm trying to imagine liking a small, cold, dry burger with solid cheese. Can't do it.
Ha! schmendeler!! That's really funny pal. Audible laugh ensued . . . .

Much respect for the Wimpy's owner and staff... they hustle during that lunch rush. Their prices are very reasonable for the area too. Not even close to my favorite burger in Houston though. Just in that area I'll get a burger from Otto's over Wimpy's.

My favorite overall in Houston has to be the Bellaire Special from Bellaire Broiler Burger... just a big fat delicious greasy mess. I love it.

Mmmmm maybe that's it then. Not sure I could tell you what poutine is supposed to taste like but I sure liked what Bernie's put out!

It's legit yall...

Been on the search for my favorite burger in a Texas since college.

1: Koppe Bridge
2: McKenzies BBQ & Burgers
3: Pappas Bros BBQ cheese burger

Be prepared for a bit of a bun integrity issue though. It'll start to disentigrate on you if it's a particularly juicy patty.

Standard is double meat. DONT ORDER A DOUBLE. It's too big.

I've enjoyed Pappas' burgers for years and agree about the bun issues but disagree on not ordering a double meat. Try it with their fresh pico de gallo.

speaking as a former short order cook from Koppe Bridge, there's nothing too unique about their burger.

It was Ruffino patties like most other places in town. We did cook them halfway and then soak them in a mixture of fry oil and water to keep them moist for the busy times though. Maybe that's what you remember!

The fries were fresh cut and pre-soaked...so those were pretty good.

I guess it's a little disappointing to hear there's nothing much special about it but that doesn't take away from the fact that it just happens to be my favorite burger. I guess that just speaks to the fact that I feel it is the essence of what a hamburger is. Not saying it is the best in Texas for everyone but it is certainly my favorite.
