Old DJ inherited from my father today. I put some money into it for service, cleanup, polish. Looks pretty good for a 35+ year old watch.

This is why I feel somewhat validated in spending money on high end watches. It's something that can possibly stay in your family for generations.

Did Rolex have the extreme luxury price tag that does now compared to 1960's/70s releases?

Obviously it was "cheaper" numbers wise due to inflation. But would it be the same price today as it was back then due to inflation?

This is one of the reasons I got into watches. Wife had lots of inherited and her own jewelry to pass down. With two sons, one son in law and two grandsons, I've had work to do to have something to pass down to each of them. I'm almost there.

This is also why I don't have a couple of really nice Rolex's or similar. Spreading that money over five Omega's instead.

Very cool. I've got the same watch in SS w/ black dial with a similar story. Was my dad's originally, and he gave it to me when he upgraded to a two-tone GMT Master about 10 years ago, ha. He'd worn it since it was new in 1984 or thereabouts.

My family grew up on the west side of San Antonio......no luxury watches in the family......yet!

Don't sleep on those. That is plenty good for a family heirloom. My kids and eventually grandkids are going to see a watch on my wrist and associate it with me and our family. It doesn't matter what the watch is as much. I have a gold accutron and a tiny rectangular bulova I claimed after my grandfather passed.

I don't know the how the numbers would stack up directly, but I do know they were a luxury item back then because my grandfather used to talk about how pissed he was (at the time) that his third wife bought him a gold presi (with his money) because of the cost. And he was well-to-do. He of course went on to cherish it and loved it for the 50 years he had it until he died.

I'm in Vegas seeing the Benavidez vs Plant boxing match and at the watch store at the MGM they had a blinged out gold YM2 studded with diamonds for $248k. I asked if I could take a picture with it on and they said "no"

I tried on the Explorer 36 and it was too small. Even though I like the 36 DJ. The DJ 36 wears bigger than that, I guess because of the fluted bezel.

I'm interested to see if the Explorer 39 is better for me. My BB58 (thank you…ha) is a great size.

So slightly related to watches but have had the absolute best weekend for a boxing junkie you can possibly have. Got to meet Stitch Duran who was wearing a Movado; undisputed lightweight Champion Jermell Charlo who was wearing a Diamond two tone rolex Wimbledon. Heavyweight challenger Joe Joyce who was wearing an AP ROO, and Chris Eubank Jr who was wearing a PVD Milgauss.

Tomorrow, buy the fight on showtime ppv, and look in the third row for the dude wearing the most outrageous Robert Graham shirt you've ever seen
