The Ed White is just perfect. A little pricey, but perfect.

This drives me crazy. For years, the "Ed White" wasn't the current model. It was a vintage piece.

I do agree. Its one of their better models available.

I'm stuck firmly in the camp that can't bring themselves to spend much over $1,000 for a watch even though I have no issues spending way more on other hobbies. I really wish I could bring myself to pull the trigger on this one.

I saw a white gold blue face day date at a rolex store last week than damn near had me willing to risk it all.

As I'm seeing discussed, most of us have our thing that we spend money on that is a luxury. Guitars, guns, vacations, etc. Things we don't need, or could get much cheaper, but it is something we enjoy and find the experience worth the money. Watches have become my main money hobby.

I know that this is a worthwhile expense for me because every time I put these watches on in the morning, I get a bit of joy. Several times a day when I check the time, I get a bit of joy. When I think about the history of these watches, what they were made for, the stories behind them and the personal stories I make with them, I get a little bit of joy. And sometimes I look down at a pretty piece just for the heck of it and get a little bit of joy.

Most things we buy we get that big dopamine hit initially of something new, but soon it wears off. But some items we enjoy every time we use them. That's how the right watch is for me.

If you really wish you could bring yourself to buy a nicer watch - if you have been eyeing something for a while - I'd encourage you to take the leap and see if you're in the same camp I'm in. If it's a lasting joy. Because here's the thing, if you're not in that camp - if you get the initial dopamine but it quickly wears off - you can sell the watch and get your money back. And then you'll at least know that watches aren't your best place to monetarily invest in some joy. If you do your research, be patient, buy at the right price (or just hit up FTAC2011), then you should be able to sell the watch for minimal if any loss if you determine it's not your thing.

You only live once.

And since we're doing wrist checks today, I've got on the first watch I obsessed over when I started getting into the hobby. One of my favorite things is how different it can look in different lighting.

I love that watch. When I bought my Speedy I went back and forth with the blue SMP as well. I'm glad I chose the Speedy, but that one is still on my list.

Man, gotta get a speedy at some point.

Ordered this last week. Not bad for under $1k.

At least these designs are somewhat unique and you're getting a common yet well-respected swiss movement. I would agree that is not bad for under 1k.

Love that LN.

I am looking to get a GMT Master within the next four months. I realize the 116710LN is discontinued but still come back to it every now and then on my search. Having it to do all over again, would you buy the LN or would you consider a BLRO or BLNR?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but aren't these the same movements in Oris & Chris Ward at a lower cost?

I would pick the LN 10/10 times. It is so sleek and beautiful to me. I like the others but this one is my absolute favorite.

Oris is typically higher than $1k. Closer to $2k even.

Christopher Ward has been creeping up but around $1k is about right i think.

I haven't checked in while but a few months ago the Oris Divers 65 is ~$2k new but ~$1k gray market.

I also have no idea what cost difference there is between the selita standard finishing and the refined or tailor made finishing. No, it's not a Patek movement but at least it's upgraded enough visually for a clear caseback.

Any idea what kind of accuracy people are getting from the SW200-1 in the Christopher Wards? I know there are various levels of the movement and accuracies.

There's a lot more to research, learn, and understand in the movements, materials, and quality of mid grade watches ($500-$5K) than just handing over $20K+ for a high end watch and bragging about how awesome and knowledgeable you are.

Lots more players
Lots more movements
Much more range of quality
Every design and color scheme under the sun

I don't remember who posted about the Formex Reef GMT a few weeks ago, but I've checked out every review that exists and looked at the damn thing every single day since. It's only a matter of time now.

It's been a minute since i checked them but the two "basic" caliber ones were around ten seconds a day fast or slow. And the COSC one was 5 seconds fast.
