Another possible gameday watch option. Thoughts on Spinnaker?

I just don't understand cheap mechanics watches. I guess it's the same reason Target has a jewelry section. It's just not for me.

Some people don't have a lot of money but want the sweeping hand and like the "exclusivity" of an automatic movement

Daytona22 posted his a few pages ago. It's a Croft model as opposed to this one though. I tried like hell to find one for sale but couldn't

Let me rephrase. I don't understand why there is a "midrange" level. Why pay a couple of hundred dollars for an automatic watch when you can get basically the same thing for $50?

Not to be a complete ***** to someone looking to spend a few hundred vs. a few thousand. "High-end" is a subjective term.

It absolutely is. I don't think many consider a cheap Hong Kong watch high-end. Do you?

Looking for recommendations for a black (dress) leather strap to put on my Datejust 41. This will not be my typical way of wearing the watch, but just an option for formal events once or twice a year, as the datejust is currently the dressiest watch I have.

(Also this thread is going to be the main purpose for me checking TexAgs for some time, as any emotional/mental energy invested in our football program is not providing positive returns for my emotional/mental health.)

I work in a typical office environment, and I know of three people in my circle who have Rolexes (one is the small 26 ladies watch). I know two guys with Tags, one with a Ball, and one with an Omega. To pretty much everyone else, the idea of paying more than a couple hundred bucks would be considered extravagant or crazy. A thousand-dollar watch sounds "high end" to a lot of people, much less $7k+ for a Rolex. I know there's a lot of guys on this board who work in O&G or who are engineers who can drop that kind of money, no problem, and I think that's great. But for most people a $300 Apple Watch seems "high end."

Especially because $7k hasn't got you a sub since 2005.

Tudor today is essentially what Rolex was then. $5k for a watch is a lot of money to 98.5% of the US, let alone the world. Hell, that's braces for my kids.

Farmer acts like we're all Saidi Princes or something ridiculous.

He also acts like a $500-$1k automatic is the same as Casio or Timex. At some point he goes from elitist and demeaning to seeming ignorant.

Yeah, resident and token thread curmudgeon noted. High end to me is also an item by item deal. 1k plus watches for me are hard to bite off on, but I'll happily spend that on art or golf clubs or camera lenses, stereo equipment etc. without thinking twice. I'm getting there mentally with watches and once I make my first true high end purchase, I'll probably be insanely hooked. So, I think my subconscious is protecting me from yet another compulsive and overly obsessive hobby.

Same but for music equipment.

I just spent over 1.5k on a Gibson Les Paul. Didn't think twice about it……watches…maybe one day

I do and I can't recommend it. It keeps terrible time and the bezel got scratched up way easier than it should have. It is now my boat or swimming watch or whatever rough and wet thing I am doing. I bought it before I really knew more about watches. Don't recommend.

Cartier's way of commercialized success. Can never take them off/worn all of the time. Wife has two of them. I'll never understand the allure.
