I'm quite partial to the DJ as well. Prefer the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet but they're all sharp watches.

I like the "sportier" look of the smooth bezel and the Oyster bracelet, but I get it. I think fluted/Jubilee would be too fancy for me.

Of course my wife thinks I should get a gold one, so who knows!

yeah, I could see that. I have two pretty "sporty" watches already, plus a nice dress watch, so I see the DJ as a nice hybrid watch for myself.

Go with a datejust, either smooth bezel/oyster bracelet or fluted bezel/jubilee bracelet. That way you have some variety between a sport watch with black face and no date to a dressier watch with blue face and date.

Chrono24 is where I go for a quick estimate. You can look at what current watches are listed for, and then assume they sell for a bit lower than that.

They have an estimator tool you can use, but I feel like it always shoots pretty high above what you could actually get for it.

What I prefer to do is actually use this tool like you were going to sell it (it doesn't actually create a listing if you just see what their suggested listing price on that first page is). If you know the reference number it auto-fills all the details for you and then you just choose the condition, whether you have box/papers or not, and it gives you a suggested listing price.

Knock off 5-10% (depending on the demand for your particular watch) and then knock of 6.5% for their seller fee, and that's what you're actually walking home with.

Of course for insurance purposes you could use the higher end of any of those suggested numbers, and then you just pay a higher insurance premium.

As you should. JLC watches are exquisite. But I prefer the master control or the reverso for its uniqueness. I don't think those match what you're looking for though.

You can get the same movement in a Hamilton that looks similar enough for 1/3 the price.

In a Breitling too, if you're talking about the Valjoux 7753. Not sure where the ETA 2892-A2 is used. But RGM also modifies and refinishes them in both cases. Not aware of any hand cut engine turned dials or blued Breguet style hands on a Hamilton.

Edit. Oh the ETA 2892 is used by garbage companies like Omega and Tudor.

My vote would be the DJ. I have a date on all of my watches though. I use it quite frequently.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I also lean to the DJ and sometimes miss the date on my Speedy. All my other watches in rotation have a date as well.

Guess I'll start putting feelers out and see how long it takes to locate one.

I don't think the fluted dial looks bad, but I wouldn't do it with the fluted bezel.

I was fully on board with a smooth bezel but man when I saw the fluted for the first time I just fell in love with it.

The silver dial is the other one that I was considering. Don't tempt me.

I want a Seamaster in blue at some point, so a silver DJ would fit the collection.
