Rolex doing a pink face and pastel blue face was pretty out of character for Rolex, but they made the decision to release the OP under their brand. Omega are not. Just a difference in marketing decisions but I would imagine the Omega side of Swatch is paying close attention to the interest to take into consideration for future products.

Worded my first response terribly.

Again, I want to caveat this by saying I really like these watches and would pick up one or two if available online.

But what Rolex did was change the dial color on the OP, which takes it in a little more casual direction and prevents overlap with something like the Datejust. I don't see that being a very risky move.

What seems much more risky for a brand is using a high end luxury brand on a cheap product, which is exactly what Swatch is doing by plastering the "Omega" and "Speedmaster" logos on a $260 watch.

I feel like it's a smart move from a marketing standpoint. There aren't a lot of young people who can afford or even know what an Omega is. This at least gets more of them in the door. Kind of like when Mercedes made their first sub 30K sports sedans to get young professionals into knowing they'd likely upgrade in the future. As far as losing current customers, maybe that's a risk but I think the upside of gaining younger customers is greater that the risk of losing current customers.

I think there's also people that just like the speedmaster and think these colors are cool and the price is low enough to say "why not?".

Target does the same thing with their collaborations.

I don't think the younger generation cares as much about "luxury" brands crossing over to different price points.

I was at the galleria just now and the watches, while nice looking, look like a sub-$1K quartz watch, which is to be expected.

Didn't get to actually touch the thing though.

This exactly. The OP is Rolex quality with fun colors targeting a more casual setting.

This doesn't appear to be anywhere near Omega standards which is already perceived below Rolex.

I wish AP would do something co-branded with Casio around the Casioak G Shock just to watch this place melt down. Also, anyone who is too embarrassed to be seen at the Petroleum Club in their FOIS because of this should hit me up at username at gmail, because I'm a buyer at a brand-diminished price.

So who all is going to be at the North Park store in Dallas tomorrow morning? I'll be the guy wearing a real moon watch. I hope to get a Mercury or Neptune for a friend who's out of town and I'm still debating between Pluto and Saturn for myself.

Probably 9:30-10. If it takes getting there earlier than that I'll probably just get one online when I don't have to deal with in store insanity

As a guy who owns and wears a real OG moon watch I think these are whimsical and fun for what they are. A $260 piece with a unique story and some cool (and some awful) color combos.

Different strokes
You're right. The replies on this thread have actually changed my mind and I may grab a couple just to throw in the safe. I'll eat my crow.

Will swing by the Houston Galleria around 930 tomorrow to test the crowd. Intrigued by the Neptune and Pluto but want to see in person. Saturn would be a winner if the rings weren't on the front and I go back and forth on Earth.

Definitely will hear about it if I pull the trigger it but Ill chalk it up to "Father's Day".

I'm in CS this weekend otherwise I'd join you guys. If anyone wants to pick me up one I'll gladly pay you for it. Pluto preferred but I'd take nearly any of them outside of the pink, red, or yellow ones.
