I'm kinda liking the look of the Air King now, the dial is busy and it's a bit weird but it's growing on me, I think I could get one sooner than my Datejust as well.

Ha. Don't settle just because of the brand. No one cares what watch you wear, only you. Or bite the bullet and pay the premium for what you want. Outside of a 2008-like crash I don't see anything changing anytime soon.

I've been following this thread for awhile and I'm ready to buy my first "high-end" watch. I want something that I can wear everyday and really enjoy. Most of the watches I have right now are chronographs but I think I'd like something with a cleaner face. I've looked around a bit and I keep coming back to this Omega Seamaster. I really like the face and color of this one but I'd like to try it on before I decide to buy. Is the galleria the best place to try on an Omega? And if I decide I do want to pull the trigger, is buying online the way to get the best price? Any suggestions for watches similar are appreciated as well. TIA.

you can go to a Jared if there's one closer to you than the galleria, they have a pretty decent selection, Zadok has one now as well. When you find an Omega you like, I would search for a gently used nearly brand new one; you'll save about 30-40% on a new one.

Is that watch white gold? If so its probably decently priced. The cartier extra flat in white gold is almost that much

It is white gold, and yes it is a steal but yeah...

Good lord, that is beautiful. Patek makes such beautiful watches. Someday... Maybe I will win the lottery or get another expat gig.

It's just money, you can always make more, and how pissed will you be if you go to look for that watch in a year and can't find one for less than 40k (or not at all!), or 100k in 10 years

That was my impetus to buy my Monaco. And I promptly went home and threw up. But I live it. I just bought it when I was 23 and had never spent that much money on anything other than a car before. Granted I also threw up when I paid #1k for dinner and 5 glasses of scotch. But one of those was 70 year old scotch.

I stopped drinking a lot of the bottles of bourbon i have when their secondary value crept up to greater than $500. I just couldn't mentally justify opening a bottle that could net me 5 to 10 times what I paid for it. I actually sold a ton to finance the purchase of the Sub that I traded for my GMT. There is no way I could stomach paying secondary prices for a Rolex.

It's not bad but gotta admit I'm not totally feeling the rubber on GMT look. Even on a Sub it would be pushing it, IMO.

Having said that Kevin O'Leary's collection of high end watches on red rubber straps is on point, so maybe I'd have to see in person.

I am a huge fan of high end on rubber. I have a rose gold skydweller on rubber, a rose gold hublot on rubber, a rose gold omega on rubber.

You can't beat them for comfort and they make the "gold" look a little more youthful.

Why not? I think it should depend on the type of watch, not the type of metal.

For example a dress watch shouldn't have rubber whether it's stainless steel or gold. On the other hand, I think rubber is totally appropriate for a dive watch like the submariner or a sport chronograph like the Daytona oysterflex.. both of which come in gold

To bring sportiness and even more casual look to a watch that's intended for that.

Few timepieces that come to mind that do that well… Lange Odysseus, AP ROO, PP aquanaut, Blancpain FF, Daytona, yachtmaster, hublot Big Bang, omega seamaster.

And yes, personally I think the rose gold version of some of the above pieces look fantastic with black runner, more so than the ss versions.

Yeah that is stunning. I think it works well in making it sportier but also allows the watch case and dial to stand out more against the subdued dark rubber rather than a rose gold bracelet.

Because it's super comfortable, looks great, and stands out from the 80 year old men wearing yellow gold presidential's in Sansabelt slacks.

It's also not like rubber is some texags conspiracy. The holy trinity all have rubber bracelets as a base offering for select models, not some aftermarket modification. As does ALS and virtually every haute horology watchmaker.
