I was in the Thomas Markle jewelry store this week to get the wife something for our anniversary, and I was shocked to glance over and see the Rolex case fully stocked...Seriously. All of the GMT's in oyster and jubilee, Subs, Daytonas, everything.

My salesman told me that Rolex sent them one of everything this week to put in the display case so customers could try them on, and there is a sign in every case that says that they are not for sale. So naturally, we went over and I got to try on a few of the watches I've never seen in person before. If you have been itching to see what the Rolex of your dreams looks like on your wrist, the Memorial Markle location has them all to try on.

Yes, no movements in them.

thats how singapore is at the 7 or so ADs I went to. There were several you could try on. The rollercoaster of emotion at the first one was wild.

They all worked when I messed with them. I even wound up a GMT and messed with the complication while I was there.

Apparently Rolex is pissed (or it's customers really) that they can't even try on the model they won't be able to buy so they are rolling out inventory that can be sold, but not moved until it's replaced. This is per some forum rumors.

On a related note, I was in an AP boutique last week and they are also trying to retain some pieces so people can try them on. The CEO is supposedly pissed that people can't try on the watches before ordering them. That's why they are starting to cut off ADs and move most production to their own boutiques and AP houses. Also, their approach is if you want AP you should buy what we have and not cherry pick what you want.

Probably much easier to do with Rolex which makes 800k+ than AP which makes 40k and last year less than that due to covid. Inquired about Lange Odysseus too and was told the boutique only got 1 (one) since it was launched.

Agree with others on datejust, milgauss, or maybe even 116622 yachtmaster if you can up the budget a couple grand. If you can up it more go for the new 41mm sub.. they are awesome.

Non Rolex I'd go for a 40mm DLC Cartier santos if it were me

Is this an everyday watch or just something to add your collection? It can be tough to move away from Rolex, but prices are silly right now. Panerai or JLC reverso on the top of my list for next watch.

What were they going for 5-10 years ago?

Retail price now is about 9k. I want to say 10 years ago they were around 6k, maybe a tad higher.

I was going through some family stuff and came across a watch that was owned by my late grandfather. I don't think anyone even knew he had it because it was just sitting in a dresser with a bunch of his random stuff. The watch hasn't seen the light of day in probably 20 years (or more?). I am assuming it is real Rolex, but honestly, I don't know how to tell. It wasn't working when I found it, but after being moved around, the second hand is sweeping like a Rolex should.

It is in pretty rough shape and needs some TLC. The clasp is broken/missing and there are two indices that have come off (6 and 11). It needs varnish removed and polishing all over. Here are a couple pictures:




Any thoughts from the board on getting it serviced? I assume take to a Rolex dealer for them to mail off. Any estimates on how much it would cost to have it worked on?

I'm not sure if the clasp looks broken. The indices are an easy fix. Might be mostly a cleanup.

The cost of the face work and a polish was $500 on a sub a month or so ago just so he has an idea of what he's looking at. The pic is a few pages back. That one obviously needs a little bit more cleaning.

What an awesome find! I wish I could stumble across a $10k watch.
