I wish we could create a private club where we could borrow watches from others close by. Maybe even cufflinks or similar stuff. We'd have to have insurance and contracts, but it could be cool.

I have a black tie event in a couple weeks and would love to have something more event appropriate (and either white or black) instead of my Bluesy.

Something like that. I think we have better taste and a much larger selection.

Sister is thinking of getting her fianc this watch for a wedding gift. He was very drawn to it so her only concern if it the color choice too trendy or will it still be fashionable for decades. This thread seems to have some good knowledge around time pieces so wanted to get your thoughts. No rule 1, sorry.

Love this thread! As an LOLpoor / Seiko guy, it's like really fun window shopping.

My plebeian contribution…

I learned from this thread that Seiko is not really a lolpoor watch anymore. I added a few to my wishlist after visiting their site. Nice watches.

I'm not a fan. Looks "antiqued." I was going to suggest the bronze oris diver 65 as an alternative but it looks like those have a similar face this year. I think it's a fad that's going to pass
Edit: now the tudor bb in bronze with slate face... that's sexy! At about the same price point as the tag that's a no brainer

Nope. It was inside my jacket and I was picking up dinner from a restaurant and it got hung up on part of their counter and I knew something wasn't right immediately. I've been meaning to switch back to the steel bracelet anyways.

Fortunate. My Tudor BB58 Navy wasn't so lucky. Was trying to put it back on after golf with cold hands and the strap slipped out of my hand. All the way down to the asphalt. Nicked/dented the bezel. Both the insert and the coin edge. I'm crushed. Most won't notice until you really look at it, but I see it instantly. Not surprisingly it hasn't been worn much since. I just need to get over it.

Tag Haur Autavia

Thanks in advance!
Bronze case has been a trend last 5 yrs or so. Some think it will pass, others think it will ride. I like it, I'm on board.

If he likes the Tag, get the tag. If open to other brands, get the Tudor its better inside and out but it doesnt have date. It will retain value and sell for more than Tag will in 5-10 yrs.

Mine fell off like 3 days after I got it when one of the s reps holding the links together came undone. Nothing happened than God because it fell on carpet. I'm glad I noticed right away. I took it to q rolex dealer and they put loctite on everything. So sketchy.

This is my old Seiko. It's pushing 25 yrs old. It's beat to hell, and I haven't worn it in about a decade. It no longer runs. I LOVED this watch. It's titanium so it's light as a feather.

My current plan is to get it serviced and cleaned up as much as possible, assuming I can, and give it to my eldest nephew as a high school graduation gift. Maybe that's dumb. Not sure. Just thought about it in the last day or so.

Have to know the nephew (and y'all's relationship) to say how that turns out. He could wonder why the heck you gave him an old watch and chunk it in a drawer, ever to be seen it again. Or he could cherish it as a piece that always reminds him of you that he keeps forever.

That's a neat watch either way. It will probably cost more than just buying a new one, but sounds worth it.

We are fairly close and he's a bit of a nerd so he might actually like this. I was going to ask my brother before I do it to get his opinion.

I'm sure it will. It's been serviced once in its life and I recall it almost costing what I paid for it back then.

I'd offer like $100, maybe $120 on that one and see if they bite before i even bothered trying to track down that oddball crystal. Then replace the battery in yours.

Yep. That's it. Probably not worth messing with it.

I'll get a quote to service it and see if it's worth spending the money.

Not a terrible idea, but if you haven't worn it in a decade then he probably has no idea it exists. I grew up playing with my uncles Aggie ring. We'd spin it on the table waiting for our food to come at restaurants. At the time I didn't know crap about that ring but I always associated it with my uncle.

Tag Haur Autavia

Thanks in advance!
It's a nice watch, but keep in mind that it -- and other bronze watches -- will patina over time. And there's no way to really know how fast it will patina or how it will look. Some like that, some don't.

I was going to suggest an Omega De Ville Prestige, but they appear to all be on wait list. I wonder if Omega is going to release an updated line?

If she wants to stick with Tag, the Carrera 39mm in blue is nice.

There are a few different Tudor styles at a similar price.

Just some thoughts.

In that price range, I'd personally rather have a Nomos or a Tudor. That's just me. Maybe he is different.

Does anyone have any experience/recs on quick release spring bars? On my Hamilton Khaki I like to switch straps (a lot) and have some NATOs and some 2-piece straps. The 2-piece straps have quick release bars, but it's a small pain putting the OEM bars in to use the NATO straps. I see lots of options for QR bars online, but wondered if there is any reason to buy one over another (or if it's not a good idea).

They're convenient because they are easier to take off (come loose).

Now think that through.

I had one come off on a mountain in Colorado. Thankfully the watch hung up in my jacket and found it that night back at camp.

Get one of the little pin release tools for like $5 on Amazon instead.

Hey - my Fossil background is about to actually come in handy for once.

I have a bunch of these things. Probably a dozen or more, because it's the default way that Fossil does their leather straps, and even now most of their bracelets. I've also bought several online.

I have some I picked up for like $20 on Amazon that'll do the job - imitation reptile leather straps. They look okay, and their comfortability leaves something to be desired. But I still use them on occasion.

Honestly, the Fossil straps are good. I haven't bought one in a long time (only ever bought one that wasn't what came on the watch), but they are comfortable supple leather, the quick-release system works so smoothly and easily, and they look good. I'd guess they probably run $40-$60 without a sale, but you can always find a Fossil sale if you're willing to wait (at most) a month.

I'm not wearing leather on my main watches anymore but if I was, quick-release would absolutely be the way I go. Perfect for easily matching the leather on your shoes/belt without having to work with a spring bar tool and all that jazz.

Thanks, and I kind of arrived at that conclusion after my post. I left it up to see if anyone had anything ground-breaking to contribute.

And I have a couple spring bar tools, so I'll just go that route.

As an aside... does anyone know if a Hamilton Khaki Field 42mm will work with fat bars and NATO straps? I'm wondering if there is enough room for the strap to pass through with the larger diameter bars.
