We've been getting bands of significant rainfall about every 45 minutes since 6am in kemah. Can't see the other side of the lake.

I'm guessing this thing heads further south (Corpus area) and we get about 5 inches over the next couple days. No big deal.

People here at work were already talking about sitting out the patio tonight and watching it roll through as the winds pick up. Gimme a break.

Sure, it could wind up being another overhyped Rita scenario, but with present conditions it's likely to get really ugly in places.

The boss man told just told us that employees that can't make it to work due to weather conditions can subtract an official vacation day.
Your boss sounds like somebody that gargles dick.
So, what, you think that they should just be paid for not showing up?

If a significant weather event (or other event, for that matter) gives enough reason for the company to dictate that coming to the office is as the discretion of the employee, then yes. No way should a vacation day be charged for something like this - that's a dick move made by people that like to have hairy nutsacks resting on their chins as much as possible.

I would assume that, given the circumstance, you would agree that the company should be liable in the event an employee is hurt or dies on the way to work because the company would not put safety of their employees first?

You like to talk a lot about dude parts.

Obviously it piques your latent interests. That's ok though, I don't think too many people here will judge you.

Yep, said flocking to the stores stocking up like this was a hurricane was unnecessary and that we'd look back on this in 24-36 hours and realize it was just a rain event, nothing more.

I didn't hear any mention of storm surge, but was on a conference call at the beginning so may have missed it.

I'm working from home with both kids here thanks to the stupid daycare closing for less rain than we've had any given day the last month. SMH

And they'll probably be closed again tomorrow.

daycares tend to close when a leaf blows off a tree. Ask them when the make up day will be.

I was livid when they didn't make up a day earlier this year after always touting that they follow whatever Conroe ISD does for bad weather. Apparently that's only for the benefit of closing, not making up the days CISD does. Hypocritical much?

From Jeff Lindner:

Tropical Storm Bill remains about 20 miles south-southwest of Port O'Connor. The storm stalled just offshore which has delayed sending the bulk of the heavy rains onshore.
Bill's winds remain at 60 mph, and those tropical storm winds extend out 150 miles from the center.
Bill's rains extend 400 miles south into the Gulf. All that moisture will come inland later today, tonight, and tomorrow after Bill makes landfall. Our biggest threat of inland flooding may actually come tonight and Wednesday. Southeast Texas remains under a Flash Flood Watch until 6pm Wednesday.

The storm stalling is no good. We might not be getting much in Houston, but those people to the South getting probably getting effed.

My company sent out a note that we are for open for business as usual but to "use your best judgement and let your manager or supervisor know of any concerns." The short of it is that we are open and to get here. Barring some compelling story, I think less of people that can't figure this one out.

The first casualty of the storm is upon us. I went in the backyard to get the kids' little slide so it doesn't blow away and a yellow jacket with a nest on the underside of it stung my hand.

If this storm does eventually drop some rain, it is going to eff some people up. The media can only cry wolf so many times before these idiots start making decisions for themselves.

Disagree with this. People love drama and as long as there is a hint of mass hysteria people will run with it. They want to believe chit is gonna hit the fan and therefore they'll believe what they want.
