It is.

I do think they got a bit more storm surge than they expected.

Here is the model run for 2 pm this afternoon.

There's a lot of moisture hanging out on the south end of this storm and if that swings this way this afternoon (like the model shows) then it could get ugly.

Gee, scroll up and you're mocking the whole thing and anyone who took it seriously at all...like 10 posts.

As stated earlier by others, there's a difference in taking it seriously and falling into the over-hyped, sky is falling, fear mongering category.

I'm at work watching it closely and I'll probably leave at lunch to avoid the afternoon mess.

Looks like between 11-3 is time to watch.

Later this morning and afternoon we're going to have to watch for larger, heavier bands of rainfall this afternoon. The high resolution NAM forecast model suggests we will see a period of very heavy rainfall between about 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Yeah, the key is to read the sci guy or jeff masters blog and avoid local news, which is aimed at the sub 90 IQ portion of the Houston population.

I kinda miss seeing that fat little cokehead pos Dolcefino pretend to fight the wind.
Wayne was covering a storm once from a parking lot, grabbing a fence post or a gate and leaning at an angle as if fighting the wind as he yells into the camera. Meanwhile in the background behind him someone carrying a box walks casually by. One of the funniest things I've ever seen on TV.

People here at work were already talking about sitting out the patio tonight and watching it roll through as the winds pick up. Gimme a break.

Sure, it could wind up being another overhyped Rita scenario, but with present conditions it's likely to get really ugly in places.

The boss man told just told us that employees that can't make it to work due to weather conditions can subtract an official vacation day.
Your boss sounds like somebody that gargles dick.
So, what, you think that they should just be paid for not showing up?

At our company, if you have available PTO to use, you are forced to take it. You don't have the option to take unpaid time off until you are out of PTO.

If a significant weather event (or other event, for that matter) gives enough reason for the company to dictate that coming to the office is as the discretion of the employee, then yes. No way should a vacation day be charged for something like this - that's a dick move made by people that like to have hairy nutsacks resting on their chins as much as possible.

I would assume that, given the circumstance, you would agree that the company should be liable in the event an employee is hurt or dies on the way to work because the company would not put safety of their employees first?

Its a Japanese company... they don't give a sh*t about anything... They laugh at tropical storms when they get to deal with tsunami's on a regular basis.

We are heavy in manufacturing and have week long plant shutdowns twice a year (one in July and one over Christmas/New Years week). We expect the production employees to either take whatever available PTO they have during those weeks or take the weeks unpaid. In senior management's eyes, this is a similar situation.

I'll bet we are not getting the full facts. I'm assuming the boss said, "It is up to you whether you want to come in today. But, if you do not and you want to get paid, you will be charged a vacation day."

That is perfectly reasonable. If you couldn't make it in but you worked from home, you should just get paid normally without having to use vacation. If you could make it in, but stayed home because you don't like the look of some of those outer bands and are afraid that you won't be able to get back to Fulshear, you shouldn't get a free paid pass - you should have to use available paid time.

not getting paid won't stop people from taking days off whenever they want. A hit to PTO is more of a deterent. Especially on holiday weekends.
