My 12 minute commute took about 8 minutes this morning.....it was awesome!

30 minute commute from Cypress down to 25 minutes today

One chick in my office who lives a block from me: I'm leaving at 11am with a loaner laptop. I ilved in a hurricane for 5 years and I don't take this stuff lightly. We live right by the Bayou, its only got 2" before it overflows and Studemont is already flooded. Shelby says its already getting bad. I talked to our director and he said he'd talk to my boss if he needed to.

Me: Damn. Maybe I'm not freaking out enough.

My direct Manager: Its not going to be a big deal. We don't live in Galveston. That's where it is hitting. Really. We'll get rain. Dallas looks bad, but Houston looks fine. Don't worry. Probably going to clear up around 5.

Me: Damn. Maybe I'm freaking out too much.

Galvan:what are you in Houston for?
Passenger: Cancer

Now he finished interviewing a couple and he asked them why they are in Houston. The reply was "cancer" and he didn't know how to react. He was bailed out when they said the treatment was successful and they are cancer free.

We just got our first big rain band out here around Sugar Land. Pretty impressive. Probably short-lived.

Seriously. I had a guy try to call in at 9 PM yesterday. He somehow managed to get here this morning but is planning to leave early.

Looks like the storm is really flaring up on the southern side. Not sure what this will lead to.

I do think they got a bit more storm surge than they expected.

Here is the model run for 2 pm this afternoon.



There's a lot of moisture hanging out on the south end of this storm and if that swings this way this afternoon (like the model shows) then it could get ugly.

Over the bulkhead at my in laws in Tiki Island

I'm keeping an eye on KHOU at work. It amazes me how the white trash in the coastal counties are still going out on the beach and bays with small children to see this tropical weather system make landfall. It may be a mild storm but people are dumb.
