What is the best Mexican restaurant west of hwy 6, north of i-10 and south of 290? Not looking for high end or taco truck...just decent food. Any good places around that won't give me food poisoning?

I only know of some chains that are pretty good: Chuy's, Lupe Tortilla on Grand Parkway

I have yet to find a really good local Mexican food restaurant in West Tine.

Now, there is an amazing chicken place on Mason Rd. "Pollo Bravo" and we went there yesterday. Really good chicken and the sauce that comes with it is to die for (spicy).

Vida Loca is also very good.

Pollo Bravo isn't mexican, it's peruvian roast chicken. Very good, but not mexican.

Mason and Kingsland in Katy. Really good fajitas. They do use cilantro in their beans so some people don't just love that, but that's really the only knock I have on them. Plus, they take restaurant.com gift certs, so you get one at a good discount and it makes for a very good/cheap meal.

Romeros Las Brazas on Hwy 6
http://www.romeroslasbrazas.com/

This authentic Mexican food not some BS tex mex. When the wifey and I eat there it is like eating at her grandma's house.

El Jarrito, Lupe Tortilla's, Chuys, LaFinca

Can't go wrong with any of those.

Romero's on 6 not the new one on Barker-Cypress. Also for some pricey mex try Alicia's on 290 past Barker-Cypress.

La Finca on 529 is one of my fave places to eat.

Los Cucos is also good.

El Jarrito on the south side of I10 used to be good but the last two times I went it was not impressive.

Romeros on Hwy 6 is good, but sometimes the service is sucky.

what is wrong with the Romero's on Barker Cypress? I'm going to go check it out this week. Is it not as good as the original location?

Los Faroles Mexican Restaurant on Barker Cypress in between Keith Harrow and West Little York is great.

While it is technically south on I-10 on Fry, Omar's is pretty damn good.

I think I am the 4th to recommend Romero's on this thread. They are great for breakfast as well. I agree with the above post to hit up the one on 6 rather than the Barker Cypress location. I live closer to the BC location, so I occasionally hit it up, but any time I am in the Copperfield area I make sure to stop into the one at 6 and Longenbaugh.

The original Romero's is very good. The newer one on Barker Cypress isn't nearly as good. La Finca and Alicia's don't appeal to me, but different strokes I guess. The area is a Mexican food/Tex Mex wasteland. Adding Gringos will do nothing but make it worse.

El Vacarro on Fry Rd North, not sure what the side street is, located next to the Big Daddy's bbq joint. Wife and I really like their enchiladas and I love the hot sauce made with habaneros.

Ditto on Los Cucos, Lupe's Tortilla, El Jarrito and La Finca. We also like Cazadore's out in Katy on Pin Oak near the mall.

Romero's and Alicia's both have really bad service. The food is good but their business could easily be hurt by a restaurant with both good food and service. They just don't seem to care about their customers. The customer is always wrong in their minds.

I've never gotten the love for Alicias. I've been several times and it's non-desript and bland. I do like Romeros but you're right about the service. It's inconsistent.

We used to order take-out fajitas from Alicia's about once a week. They do a solid job (although I think they are priced a little too high). When we have dined in the restaurant, it has been less than par. The waiters are slow, forget orders, and are rude from time-to-time.

I ordered an entree that came with corn instead of beans. When the food arrived, the corn was still cold.....so I notified the waiter. He told me that was unusual, but would take it back to the kitchen. The plate comes back 10 minutes later steaming to the point that I cannot eat the food for about 15 minutes. I remember the waiter stating that food was definitely warm now. I spoke with the manager the next morning. He offered to buy our meal the next time we came in......we haven't been back.

I've been a few times to LaFinca with 1Ags. The food is good, average price point, great service, and the place is always clean.

La Finca is my old stomping ground.

Omar's was good but it has probably been over a decade since I went there.

Los Cucos on 90 in Old Katy is probably my favorite.
