I'm in Port Arthur for work for a couple days (pity me). Any places I need to eat at, or any place that's decent? I try to avoid chain restaurants. I don't really want to drive to Beaumont, but if I have no other decent choices, am willing to. Thanks,

I ate at The Schooner not too long ago. Still top notch.

One day for lunch, go to Nick's Grocery and get some boudain and a box of saltines.

I second Larry's French Market. One of my favorite restaurants anywhere.

Tequila's Mexican Restaurant.

I haven't been in a while, but Sanderson's used to be pretty good.

Mazzios Pizza is a chain, but there aren't many of them. They have a good lunch pizza/salad bar.

If you are feeling brave, go get a burger from the deli at Judice's French Market on 7th street.

PAT is also covered in Waffle Houses.

hth.

I have some family there.

Schooner is good - get the trash can mix (may have the wording wrong but it's something close), it is to die for.

Good suggestion on Mazzio's - my home town has one as well and definitely a good lunch buffet place.

I'm trying to plan a trip to Port A for sometime later this year. I'm guessing summer is the best time, but also pretty crowded. Is there a "bad" time to visit Port A? In other words, what's it like from, say, October to January? Still fun, not as good, etc.?

as a resident of the Golden Triangle (Nederland), Larrys in Groves on Pure Atlantic, Schooner on Hwy69, Eaton Meats on Nederland Ave., Tequilas on 69 by the mall, La Suprema on 365 across from the mall, and Sandersons is still decent.

Jackal. There is never a "good" time to visit port a unless your making money.

I think you are confusing port arthur with port aransas.

If you like seafood, there is a place called Sartin's down in that area that offers all you can eat platters. I haven't been in a couple of years, but you used to be able to get all you could eat bbq crab that was awesome. I believe its in Nederland nowadays.

As much time as I've spent in Big Ned, I can't believe I've never eaten at La Suprema. That needs to change.

La suprema has some of the best ritas and queso around. Fwiw.

Bobby's Homestyle Cooking is the only place I would tell someone they have to eat at if they are in the area. At Nederland and 27th and only open for lunch M-F.

If you want to mix it up, Vien Dong/Pho at 9th and 25th is pretty good for Vietnamese food.

Tony's BBQ is a chain(no idea if these are all over the place elsewhere) but I would definitely recommend that for a cheap tasty meal.

Anyone try the newish BBQ place in Groves across from the old sonic?
