Mine was a combo. Some friends and I, all in High School, went to a titty bar on Antoine between Tidwell and West Little York. No problems there, I guess the bouncer didn't care about our ages and neither did the dancers as our money spent the same as the rest of the clientele.

Afterwards, we stopped by some Mexican bar on Long Point near Bingle where we were quickly told we were not welcome in there. Not by the bartender mind you, but the patrons. I thought for sure someone was getting stabbed in the gut that night, but we managed to escape unscathed. Never to return.

Honestly never been scared in Houston, and I have been in some rough areas. I think the only time was when I was little my mom took me to school with her one day (she is a Houston elementary teacher). I was about the same age maybe older but I was scared.

New Orleans scares me though.

My grandfather owned a self service car wash in Southpark at the corner of Martin Luther King Blvd and Kasserine Pass. The only places open around there was a wig shop, Kipperman's Pawn Shop (complete with secret back room where they kept the hot merchandise and also a free wedding with every ring purchased) and a Churches Chicken. Very shady area but when the weather was good cars would be lined up 3-4 deep inline for each bay.

He got held up about once a year.

Green River Drive off Mesa. My grandparents built thier house there in the 1930s and lived there till the 90s. When we were moving thier stuff out, about 10 thugs kept pacing down the road eyeing us as we loaded the trucks up. That night the house got broke into, by them I assume, although it was an empty house.

Houston - similar story as yours. On my bachelor party we wound up somewhere along Telephone Rd. Tried to go in some seedy bar and the bouncer told us not to go in as it wasn't for people like us!

used to be a "Club Diamante" there...i went there several times about 3 years ago b/c they served beer afterhours. Would never roll in with a crew of white boys though.

10-15 people snortin toot in the baños. transexuals hangin out in the parking lot across the street. after 2 or 3 visits i figured late night beer wasnt worth putting up with that mess.

my vote goes to a small cantina near 20th and TC Jester that a buddy and i went to once. several months ago it was featured on an MSNBC undercover special on illegal sex trafficking.

i hit up that liquor store on Broadway sometimes after landing at Hobby back in town from business in dress clothes and on a couple of occassions have been probably a min or two of getting butt ******.

i'm even scared to carry a pistol in there as i'm afraid i would really have to use it.

whiskey's a hell of a drug.

I was in front of Greg Swindell at the Kountry Buffett in Sugar Land when they ran out of CFS one time, that is the most scared I've ever been in the h town area.

Some strip club on Hillcroft near Westpark. I can't remember the name of it, but it's a blue smallish building. It was...interesting.

The Silhouette Lounge on Bellaire near Westpark is the skankiest strip club I've ever been to this side of Dimitri's.

1) Broadway is thoed. I was roped into going to Milby HS for a company career day PR thing fresh out of school. Opened my eyes to what real inner city school is like. Tried to hit up burger king to kill some time before hand (right at the bottom of 225) and there was a robbery in the drive thru while I was there. And this is the "nice" part of Broadway.

2) Let's just say I never take the "short cut" of driving through the washburn tunnel to avoid 610. Shady doesn't even begin to describe the areas on the North and South of that tunnel.

3) eoejosh is correct - channelview/northshore/cloverleaf area is damn shady. I love to eat at Brother in Laws BBQ but I am afraid I'll get car bombed one day in that 3rd world nation known as cloverleaf.

back in high school i went out with some shady Lee High School friends to the Skylane Apartments on I-10 and the beltway.

One of the lee guys was trying to score with some tramp that lived there (i think her name was tanka ray or something).

anyway, we walk inside and i take in the scene. DJ Screw is on the radio. We have the uncle passed out (i think) on the couch in a dirty wife beater with a mirror full of coke laying on his big gut. Mama is sitting at the kitchen table with little junior and his dirty diaper on her lap. she is gracefully rocking the baby to sleep on her knee while rolling a joint with her other hand. tanka ray comes out of her room in daisy dukes and a bra and asks us if we got any beer, because her no good uncle drank all hers. then mama asks if we wanted to throw down for the sack.

it's about this time that i'm picturing the SWAT team busting in the front door with a COPS cameraman in tow. i decide that this probably wasn't the best place to be so i bid farewell to my new friends at the skylane and make a graceful exit.

I'm shocked that place hasn't been condemned, or otherwise burned to the ground.

these kids were absolutely terrible...i don't think they were even allowed in the naughty dogs.

one of them might have gone to stratford for a bit. do you remember some guy named bert who pretended like he was some big actor? i think he was in sidekicks for about 5 seconds

That's it. I thought it was something like that. This was several years ago, so I don't know what it's like now, but we definitely seemed out of place when we went.

Delivered electrical supplies to government housing wayyyy down at the end of MLK in South Park.

My drop-off point was a really nice guy, and I never had any problems... but the place was surreal.

LaPorte. First of all the place just seems unclean and creeepy. Party at a friend's girlfriend's house in high school. Went outside after 10 minutes at the party to get some beverages we had in the car. Three of us got jumped by six guys at the party. Apparently, the guys who jumped us were in a gang on we were on their truf and we had to pay. Story still pisses me off..

Second, was Westbury High school. Played a basketball game there. We drilled their varsity team by 35. Very ugly game at the end. One of our players was under cut and seperated his shoulder. Bus ride home leaving the parking lot, two bullets come flying through the back window.

Acres home area not to friendly either but no problems..

Shiloh bar in The Heigths. Some midget threaten to kick my friend's a** because we were outsiders. I live down the damn street and my friend is about 6'6".

back in the day (late 80's) I went to club called Boneshakers it's over off 45 it was either just north or south of Gallery so it was Parker/Crosstimbers area. Me and couple my friends who could mix in better went. One of them met some skank and we went back to her place couple of blocks south of Crosstimbers and 45 for a few dranks.

Being a white boy from the suburbs (driving a brand new Camaro) I figured we'd never make it out alive and I'd be losing my sled. I remember driving hm as the sun came up feeling like the warriors did after getting back to Coney island.

I survived my high school years at the M somehow. You know it's thoed if SPM was kicked out of there.

My middle school wasn't better. After I left some kid killed another student with a screwdriver...what happened to good ol' fashioned shootings?

Needless to say, growing up in southeast Htine was interesting.

i define shady as the following:

when dialing 911, make sure they invite DEA, ATF, CPS, and INS. Why waste resources tracking criminals down when you can get them all at one spot?

I've been there during "regular" hours, and aside from having to pay some chick to dance with you, didn't think it was all that shady...even with the whole sex slave undertones.

But what was it like after hours?
