And teams don't make the consensus worst trade in the history of sports either. Any speculation is fair game at this point. I'm just glad I stopped caring about the NBA 20 years ago. I'd be livid if this was the Stars. I'd laugh if it was the Cowboys.

The biggest issue is the lack of draft picks coming back for one of the best players in the world. Nico only contacted the Lakers. Something is going on and it sucks for Mavs fans.

Interesting. Dan Patrick has said that there is a no public groundswell to legalize casino gambling in Texas. Donations and Lobbyists won't change that in two years. And if the donations & lobbyists aren't enough to convince him & the legislature, neither will Mavs moving.

Playing this in the background and Skin just said be believes Nico looked at the Thunder and Spurs and concluded the Mavs won't be able to build a better team than them over the next ~10 years, so once Kyrie and Klay and those guys are done, their window is shut. They didn't have many assets a few years ago, yet still built a Finals supporting cast around Luka which is even better this year.

The Mavs not having future assets is an argument to flip your generational talent for 4 or 5 first round picks not 1.
Nico got swindled by the Lakers. Rarely will you get the best deal by only having 1 trade partner. Should have opened up the lines of communication between a couple teams and then at least forced the Lakers to give up a couple more 1st rd picks.

You hear the offer, and it's a no brainer. Then, after laughing your butt off with your team, you call Nico back and convince him that his ask is too high.

I don't think Niko was looking for a bunch of offers. I think he believes AD is the piece he wanted and that Luka wasn't worth extending so he went to the lakers and asked them what they could offer.
Did he get enough? I don't think so but it's pretty clear this wasn't a move about getting a bunch of future chips. He clearly targeted AD.

Getting Knecht in the deal would have made this a lot more palatable.
Future late round draft picks don't mean much to me except as your own trade pieces.
