I like how Gordo stuck around to do a segment justifying their cutback by saying no major shows go longer than 3 hours anymore…on the show that just got extended to 4 hours.

That's not a major show, pal.

I am genuinely going to be sad if they are getting rid of Gordo's Corner. Hopefully, they decide to move the replay segments to the 5:30 hour and keep the big 4 (Corner, Muse, 8:40, and O-Deck). No more time for David Moore. No more time for Upon Further Review.

or get rid of the replay all together...

Cumulus needed to save $$$ and Craig/George turn 60 this year. They should have plenty of money for retirement so I can see their desire to cut back (although it was probably forced).

The mistake is giving The Invasion 4 hours (another hour of Matt). What they should have done is have The Invasion go from 9am - Noon, give Justin his own show from Noon - 1pm, and let the Sweet Spot remain unchanged.

The problem is that would come with paying Monty host $$$. Seems pretty clear they want to be as cheap as possible. Either way, pretty bad indictment of the sweet spot that they'd rather put suckass matt mclearin on for 4 hours than level up the sweet spot to 3

I was really confused this morning when they took a call after the 8:40 bit and it was the generic time waste Gordo character asking about the HFGPOTG.

Yeah, it was their idea after they were told they're getting a pay cut.

Have to think 6:00 to 9:00 was Cumulus input for drive time as they're not gaining a ton of sleep other than 30 minutes later and an hour of show prep.

I bet that's about an hour of sleeping later.

If they truly had their way it would be 7:00 to 10:00 I bet.

Curious how long this lasts but definitely the gradual slide to the end of The Musers.

My memory sucks, but isn't this basically what drove Dan & Jake away from the Ticket? I thought they wanted to do a separate podcast outside of their show and Cumulus told them they couldn't, so they bailed.

Would be an amazing, ironic note if they are reversing course and allowing Gordo to do it now.

I've never understood how Gordo could get away with his twitch stream but Dan & Jake couldn't start a podcast.

I think they wanted the Ticket to embrace other mediums as an extension of their Ticket gig (bc radio in and of itself is dying), but then also wanted do other stuff (YouTube, podcasts, writing, etc) unrelated to the Ticket that could be cross sold with Ticket content.

All of that said, I wouldn't consider this a reversal. Gordo has always had his own set of rules. He's been doing his YouTube stream for months (years?)

Yeah, Gordo has always had a long leash to do other stuff and I assume this wouldn't be much different. I'm sure there is a line somewhere like setting up a full-on podcast called "Gordo's Corner" that could be seen as a competitor. I assume he'll just work something into twitch or something

I might be in the minority here, but I would've rather them see if Norm wants to do his own 9-10am show and keep Donnie and McLearin at 10-1.

Pretty much anything would be better than an extra hour of Donnie + Matt

Not an extra hour of the Sweet Spot.

My what could have been…

Imagine this:
6-9 Musers
9-12 Donnie and Sirois with Monty producing/yuck monkey
12-3 Hang zone with Blake producing
3-330 WTDS
330-700 hardline with Julie producing

Probably an extra $1.2mm/year in salaries there. Unfortunately that's the reason.

Lol what? You think Hang Zone + (Sirois minus McLaren) + (Julie minus whoever the current HL producer is) is anywhere close to 1.2mm? I don't think it'd be half of that

Cumulus had a net operating loss of $13.4MM in the first three quarters of 2024 compared to an operating profit of $21.8MM the previous year.

After that $13.4MM operating loss, tack on another $52MM of interest expense, $14.8MM of other income, and some other miscellaneous items and their after tax loss in the first three quarters of 2024 was $52.2MM. 2023's net loss over the same period was $19.8MM so they are hemorrhaging money.

They have $621MM of net debt on the balance sheet so the company is dying a slow, painful, public death with the little Ticket being a casualty of the bigger picture.

Maybe a bit high, but I would imagine the net cost would be somewhere around there after benefits and everything else was taken into account. Dan in particular was very expensive.

The idea of "worth it" is only from a listener perspective. From a emotionless financial perspective, Cat offloaded six or seven digits from bottom-line expenses while at the same time winning Major Market Station of the Year, which The Ticket had only ever been nominated for once before and did not win (their previous Marconis were for Sports Station of the Year).

Sports talk radio in general is a dying breed thanks to streaming, social media and podcasts, just doesn't fill the void like it did 20-30 years ago. Wonder if there will be any sports stations left in DFW 5-6 years from now.

While I agree with you that it's a dying breed, The Ticket WAS different. The mismanagement of talent has made them join the crowd of the dying.

They should have had the Musers start at 7:00am (or maybe 6:45)...and go longer into the morning. All it means now is that I switch to podcasts earlier.

Love Donnie, but their show is soooooo generic. It is not entertaining at all. Is Matt still reviewing beers?...who the crap cares what beer he likes !!?!? The Sweet Spot? It's still sounds like they're a long-term fill in.

I try to remember to tune back in at 3pm, but usually only catch them for the drive home. They've ruined the Ticket. It used to be so fun and entertaining.

The Ticket should have embraced Podcasts earlier, instead of trying to compete with it. Let your hosts make more content off line. It's just more engagement with your audience, and lets your guys make some additional pennies (that you apparently wouldnt pony up). Instead, they made it a line in the sand, and died on that hill.

Today my first one with the new musers. Replay of the 8:40 bit (Jerry), a segment with david moore, and a segment with Ed Werder. No corner, just an abbreviated mix with the next show after the 8:40 bit (McCarthy) was over. Woof.

Muse in the News was good. Didn't mind CFB talk or Junior's Christmas stories. Just thankful I had already dropped my kid off before the nearly ruined Christmas for him.
