The book saying that 'the average American touches his phone 2,600 times a day" was complete and utter BS though, and nobody really questioned it which bothered me. That's almost three times a minute if you are up for 16 hours a day. And then to back up that claim, Junior says he must've touched his phone 30 times from waking up until getting into the studio...that's not in the same universe as a 2,600/day pace unless he gets to work ten minutes after waking up.

If we're counting each tap of the screen as a touch, then I can see it being that high. In my mind, I was counting picking it up to scroll Texags for a few minutes as one touch. Either way, this is stupid to argue about so as a great man once said, let's move on to something that has some importance to it, if in fact there is anything.

it's sensational statistics, most likely. Is every finger picking up the phone a touch? A touch for the power button? Every number in the pin code? Hitting the app? Every time you touch the volume rocker?

If you add Junior's stats together, you get 3hr45 of screen time for the average user, and you get 2600 touches. So that' 2600 touches over 225 minutes, or roughly 11 touches a minute, or once every 5.5 seconds for nearly 4 hours. Straight. Spend an hour on TikTok? Yeah, you're probably scrolling once every couple of seconds, so you can get there. But time spent is better metric than arbitrary "number of touches." I remember during the height of the Covid scare, it was all "You touch your face 30 times an hour!" or whatever.
