So recently, we've seen the exit of Jake, Dan, Danny, Sirios, Norm, Ty, Blake...

No bueno for the station.

Don't forget Jer, or Jennie or whatever he goes by now.
Wait, what?
He's trans. Or he thinks he is.

This hardline is a big improvement, but imagine Davey and Matt were unlistenable.

Until this year, Cumulus would have been likely to prevail. But in May, one of President Biden's appointees to the National Labor Relations Board published legal guidance finding that overly broad "noncompete" agreements can violate federal labor law. Issued by the agency's general counsel, the guidance does not yet have the force of law. But because Democrats hold a majority on the NLRB, it suggests a major change in federal policy may be on the way once the panel takes up the matter

Everyone who had "Harvard Law School Professor talking about Dumb Zone" on their bingo card please come down and collect your prize
Quote:

Sharon Block, a professor at Harvard Law School who previously worked for the Biden administration in the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, also reviewed the case for The Post.

"The hosts of 'The Dumb Zone' are not, in fact, being dumb," Block said. "Part of having agency in your own economic life is being able to take your skills, join with your co-workers, and bring them to where you think they're best utilized and in this case the hosts were being sued because they were trying to do that."

There's something amazing about Jake getting a fresh cut for the photo, Dan being all serious, but there's still a Step Brothers poster in the background.

And they say real journalism is dead:

Quote:

Since launching their podcast in late July, the "Dumb Zone" hosts have amassed more than 4,000 subscribers on Patreon, each paying $6.90 per month. They have talked in recent episodes about whether or how mermaids would tan, the induction of NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, how the phrase "leave room for" became associated with dessert and which male celebrity the heterosexual male hosts would have sex with, if they had to pick one.

Sadly, I'll never know. Do I look like someone pulling in six figs who can afford to pay $6.90 a month in between trips with D-Press and Tones Romes to ultra lounges, helping Jordan Spieth with his swing, and menagin' all weekend?

Skimming the document. The first thing that jumped out was Catlin calling out Jake's statement regarding the Jake/Dan helping pay the lesser people during covid. Said it unfairly made the ticket look like it didn't take care of its people but that 8 or so hosts did pool together to help others. But Jake wasn't one of them.

Edit - But as you get into it later and realize they were still only paying Jake $50k during covid less 25%, the other hosts told him not to participate in helping the rest because he was already so low. Pretty disingenuous by Cat to call that out

I'm not all the way through the doc yet, but it also says that ratings for the ticket are down 30% month over month, and down 45% for the 12-3 slot.

Sounds like Cumulus made a bad business decision

Or, kind of in their defense, the ratings have come down to levels they can afford to pay talent-wise. It could be a really good business decision if the expensive talent was causing them to lose money.

Other tid bits that are speculated on a lot on this board...

Jake's pay was 50k/year in Feb 2020. Raised to 80k in July 2020.

It also says that his total comp at one point was 140k.

Less than I thought it'd be for an up and coming future host...

A= Dan
Q=Cumulus Attorney

A. So we could have less listeners -- for instance, I think
recently the -- the ratings had gone down by a certain percent
but they're still number one.
Q. Okay.
A. So...
Q. You agree with me generally, ratings rise as goodwill
rises, correct?
A. I do not understand that, no.
Q. You don't understand that?
A. No.
Q. You don't think a reputation of a station has anything to
do with how its ratings are?
A. No.
Q. Okay. Do you think the reputation of the station has any
bearing on the company?
A. I don't understand that. When you try to tie ratings with
goodwill, I mean, Howard Stern got great ratings and a lot of
people think Howard Stern is very vulgar.

--
Q: Okay. When you were employed there, it mattered to you
what people thought about the station, right?
A. In a way. What mattered to me was getting good ratings.
Q. That was it?
A. Pretty much. If you thought we were garbage but we got
great ratings, then I was pretty happy.

OldArmy07
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Dan seemed to have a good time being argumentative with them.

Q. While you were at The Ticket you helped create podcasts,
correct?
A. No.
Q. It wasn't part of your job duties to prepare podcasts of
your on-air shifts?
A. No. I didn't do that.
Q. Okay. That's in your contract though, right?
A. Where does it say that?
Q. Sure. Section 1.5.
This is Section 1.5 of your agreement. And you can see
about five lines down it says part of your job duties include
"cooperating with company to create podcasts of employee's
on-air shift and/or to visually record or stream such air
shifts for distribution?"
Did I read that correctly?
A. Yeah. Well, it says I would cooperate with the company.
Q. Okay. And so part of your job duties was to cooperate
with the company to create podcasts, right?
A. Of our on-air shifts, I suppose. Yeah.
Q. And so that's --
A. I just took that to mean I wouldn't complain if they took
our on-air shift and made it a podcast.
Q. That's not what it says though, is it?
A. I think it is.
Q. And it defines podcast there as podcast of on-air shifts,
right?
A. Yes

Interesting background on Bob and Dan nearly leaving. The Fan offered $100k more each, but the Ticket had the right to match. They were gonna just match Bob which basically breaks up any leverage Dan has to go the The Fan because logically they want the show, not just Dan. So both end up taking less to stay at The Ticket and remain an intact show.
