He was expendable, and based on the comments on this thread he won't be missed by a majority of P1s.

We always make fun of the idiocy of these guys, but most of the crew has at least a basic college education. Bacsik would occasionally throw out red flags showing that he spent what should have been his college years in the minor leagues (like no concept of history, not knowing how to pronounce Chloe, and stumbling through reading stuff on-air). I saw the same thing with Rocco back in the day. There's something to be said for having at least a 2 year degree.

This is sad though. I hope at least Bad radio gets to address it on-air. Bacsik's story is very unique - how they discovered him when he was on the Mets and how he asked to be an intern during the offseason.

For those who don't remember, back in the early 00's Bob and Dan (or a producer) were doing some generic Ticket bit in the Mets locker room, and when they showed up Bacsik came over and started gushing about how he was a Day 1 P1 and listened to the station in New York.

I feel bad for the guy. One moment you are working at a station you love. The next moment you're fired because you stepped over the line...on twitter of all things. Something that took just 5 seconds has potentially ruined your career.

I was never crazy about his on-air abilities...but I could tell he was working hard at it and he was enjoying it. I also thought he had improved a good bit since he first became Norm's producer. At least it sounds like he's being up front about his mistake and accepting the consequences.

How many people get to do 2 of their dream jobs and and lose them within 2 years?

I still don't get how the Ticket gets by with all of the racial/political incorrectness on the air but when something is posted on Twitter it can get you fired.

I wonder how long it will take The Fan to offer him the afternoon drivetime show

Because most people understand that the stuff said on air is part of their schtick, and is (usually) just sarcasm/poking fun/etc.

I feel bad for Bascik. What he did was stupid for sure, but we've all said crap we regret at times. Unfortunately for him, he has a rather high profile job.

The world is too damn sensitive. Bacsik had around 1,000 followers (basically a nobody) and then within hours his tweets are on CNN.

He was drunk and made a dumb ass mistake (something all of us have done). His just cost him his career.

Sucks for him although I don't really care one way or the other as far as hearing him on the Ticket.

The little Ticket is getting some national exposure because of this and that never hurts. I feel bad for Mike as well, but that was a pretty stupid thing to tweet and I could give 2 sheets about being PC. Guy should be able to say whatever he wants, but unfortunately that isn't possible this day and age.

Wonder who is going to produce for Norm now. They should go after and bring Friedo back...that would be interesting.

Given what they get away with on the air + some drinking, I can see it being very easy to slip-up how he did. And even though I don't care for him on the air, I think ****canning him entirely is a weak move.

I think they used this as an excuse to can him.

The decision came from Cumulus Corporate, not the station itself.

Many have emailed him saying you guys say that type of stuff all the time, but we as listeners should know they are kidding because of the forum it is being issued on; Basick was different since he was on a public networking site.

Dan explaining Bacsik's backstory now...amazing stuff:

Bacsik texts the same type of ranting to Dan constantly during games, to the point that Dan knows if the Mavs lost just based on the number of Bacsik texts in the inbox.

Bacsik's managers consulted the Mavs playoffs schedule and wouldn't pitch him on game nights, knowing that he wouldn't be focused.

On that original night when Dan and Marteen (remember her?) discovered Bacsik in the Mets locker room, Dan recalls that Bacsik was only interested in discussing Mavs offseason moves.

Dan also made the good point that Bacsik always had the tough situation of being the lowest guy on the Ticket totem pole while also being the most visible national figure by far at the Ticket - made it much more likely that he would be canned.
