Here's what he said monday... tuesday he just linked to other stories about money etc.

quote:
Here he is, Aggies.
Mike Sherman is hired, and all of your wildest dreams are coming true.

Because of my NFL affiliation, I am asked several times a day by unconvinced Aggies if this was a good hire by A&M. My quick response is that his performance in Green Bay has very little to do with his ability to turn things around in College Station. Sure, the object of the game is still to score more than your opponent, but in the NFL there is no recruiting. He was the General Manager of the Packers, and his drafting was generally lousy, but now he is going to have to out-recruit Stoopes and Brown.

His biggest downfall in Green Bay was his refusal to get tough with Brett Favre. Favre’s erratic play was at its all time worst with Sherman, and it seemed obvious that no matter how many times Brett threw the ball into triple coverage, Sherman was not going to confront him. Mike McCarthy has redone Brett’s on field decision making, so Sherman looks even worse for the way things developed during his tenure. But, in fairness to Sherman, perhaps Favre only listened to McCarthy because of the rock bottom 2005 that occurred with Sherman.

So, if my two critiques of Mike Sherman are: 1) He couldn’t draft to save his life and 2) he couldn’t coach Brett Favre, then Aggies should realize that neither of those apply in college football, and therefore he should be a reasonable hire today. His in game strategy generally seemed too conservative, and of course, he is the only coach in Packers history to lose a playoff game at Lambeau Field (twice) and frankly his legacy in Green Bay is not going to make anyone forget Lambeau, Lombardi, or Holmgren.

Overall, I was hoping for Tuberville or Spurrier. But, Sherman really wants to be the coach of the Aggies. This isn’t a trampoline to another job. He wants to make the Aggies a power. That should really count for something. I am interested in what this will do to the offensive philosophies of this all.

Time to turn the page in Aggieland. Now the frustrating exercise in college football in waiting several years to see how this works. Goodbye, Fran. I doubt you will be missed.

sorry this turned into a Mike Sherman discussion. i thought Bob mentioned something about Greggo in his blog.

but back to the point...i doubt Greggo is back anytime soon. Dallas Observer said he'd be back by the end of November, which obviously wasnt true. So i'm kind of wondering if he's ever coming back. i love greggo, but i wonder how much credibility he'd have after he's done this twice (assuming this is drug related). his co-workers wont trust him, and he wont ever be able to question athletes integrity or morality without protests of hypocrisy from callers.

here's what someone who has a friend that works for 93.3 THE BONE(i think) told me:

they say Greggo has had a relapse(which apparently someone already mentioned)and is in rehab and my friend's friend said he does not think Greggo will be coming back. It's a shame this had to happen. If the rumors are true, it is the end of an era in DFW radio.

In the Observer column from a couple weeks ago, Greggo said that what he really needed was to get back to work. So, if Greggo wants to get back to work, is he not being allowed back? How come?

After giving some more thought to what the Old Grey Wolf said last week, I don't think he is coming back.

He kept saying "we will say something, but we can't do it yet". Translation: they have already made a decision but can't announce it. If they knew he was coming back, why would they not be able to say it?

He said "you cannot believe the protections someone that is going through what Greggo is going through has". Translation: we can't fire him yet.

He also said when they did discuss it, they would also discuss "where this thing goes from here and in what form". That does not sound like "this thing" will continue as it has for the past 10 years.

If he is gone, I wish they would add someone else instead of making Corby part of Hardline proper. He did not get where he is now because of his sports knowledge - he got there by being a yuck monkey. Greggo spent years at WBAP doing sports and covering the Rangers. Cobra goes to the tu/ou game every year and therefore thinks he is a college football expert.

I think you're right. When Greggo said he really thought he just needed to get back to work, that sent up a pretty bright, red flag to me. I believe that Mike's pronounced decision to begin referring to the show as the Hardline again indicates their direction as well.

It's sad. I really think Greggo added something. I wonder if they'll consider adding Kevin Scott into the mix as well or if they got sufficient-enough feedback during his couple of weeks to know that they don't want him fulltime.

Where I work, I MIGHT get a second chance....... this would be Greggo's third.... most places would have fired him weeks ago....... I doubt he'll return... what a way to ruin a great career!

It's hard for me to imagine guys pulling 250k going out of their way to earn a couple of hundred bucks hanging out at some spare cell phone store on a Saturday pimping new Razors on live spots.

I'd guess on the lower side, too...but add up all the perks and comps (which these guys load up on) and what it would take to match in a normal taxable salary would probably be a pretty strong chunk of change.

the guys that go and hang out at the cell phone stores aren't the B list guys...those are the producers who are barely on air. the ty walkers and sean basses. by B list, i'm sure he means mainly corby and donovan. the A list guys would be junior, jub, norm, rhynes, greggo, bob, and dan...and gordon, even though he plays the same role as corby and donovan, you know he makes way more than them.
i'd bet corby and donovan are pulling down about 200k and the A-listers are all somewhere between 300-500k depending on seniority.

Donovan probably doesn't even make six figures (yet)........ Giorgio does well overall since he does radio play by play for UNT and Cowboys PA..... I'm sure his total compensation package for all gigs is close to $500,000........

i'm sure you're right about donovan making less, but i still bet he's making six figures. all of the guys who have been around since the beginning are doing quite well, i bet.

George, Craig, Greggo and Mike got a huge check when the original owner sold. We're talking enough money to never work again.

About a year and a half ago... Miller was doing a live, Friday afternoon drive remote from the El Chico in Denton's Golden Triangle mall.

I'm sure that was a beat-down of epic proportions. Every 30 minutes he'd get on his cell and do a live update from El Chico's mini-bar.

I "won" a Ticket t-shirt (pretty much by default because there were about 5 people there to see the remote).

disclosure: I've family in Denton... in high school I worked at the York Steak House in the great Golden Triangle mall... good times.

It is, but they do. It's called a sponsorship agreement, has nothing to do with them getting paid to be at that specific location that day, but rather the contractual deal the advertiser paid for and is expecting. And they still make major coin. I'd estimate the A-List guys (Grey Wolf, Miller, Dunham, maybe even Gordo) are pulling in the high 2's if not in the 3's.

I also believe that Rhyner originally put this thing together, and the main guys in the beginning had some ownership of the station and made some nice dough when the station was sold to the first buyer. They may have even earned more ownership through further sweat equity, but essentially built this thing from nothing back in Feb. '94.

Good for them.

Quick trivia question: Who's voice was the first ever heard on The Ticket.

You have 5 minutes to respond.

And by the way, Greggo lives in a condo that he owns in the Mansion at Turtle Creek. You don't live there unless you are pulling down $300+ annually.
