Junior's rule is specifically the second Tuesday of August which means tomorrow, August 11, 2026, is officially the Worst Day of the Year.

The logic is peak Junior:

* August is the worst month.
* It's brutally hot in Dallas.
* There are basically no holidays.
* TV is still in reruns.
* Sports are in the dead zone.
* Summer is ending.
* Kids are about to go back to school.
* Tuesday sucks because you're past the weekend but nowhere near the next one.
* And the second Tuesday is worse than the first because you're no longer refreshed from the previous month, while on the third/fourth Tuesday you can at least "see the finish line."
* The worst moment of the entire year is 2:00 PM on that day

Back when I was consulting I got on a ~6 month engagement with Whole Foods. A friend of mine who was local was also on the project and we'd just drive down to Austin together for travel weeks instead of flying. On the drive down for the final readout we caught an amazing Ribby Paultz bit about March Madness.

Fast forward to later that afternoon and there are probably 20 people in the room and a couple of people are really struggling to get the Amazon folks in Seattle on the phone. They spent several minutes pushing buttons and were really frustrated.

Finally they get connected but then they're struggling with the volume on both ends. My friend says "PRESS THE POUND PUSH" in perfect Ribby Paultz and we died laughing. Then one of the people messing with the phone pressed # a few times thinking those were instructions to fix the volume and it hung up the call. They were not impressed with us. Good times.


TLDR my buddy's Ribby Paultz impression that was a joke for 2 out of 20 people jammed up the final readout in a $3MM+ consulting engagement

I genuinely don't understand how someone comes to root for a team without a backstory. I tried the EPL gambit maybe a decade ago when the Ticket was talking about it then (https://www.theunticket.com/craig-junior-spank-miller-tells-his-soccer-journey/). Went through some algorithm that told me to pick Tottenham. I tried, but in the end, I just didn't care if they won or lost. It all felt manufactured.

Only thing that might make sense would be trying to follow a player and then following that team. I could understand wanting to watch Manchester City after becoming a Haaland fan during the world cup. Even then, if he got traded or sold to someone else, you'd be switching teams.

Completely agree. I've never actually tried it but what you described is why I haven't.

Even when I hear the hosts talk about their EPL clubs, it seems so manufactured and performative (look at me I'm hip and cool bc I have an EPL team and act like I care about them). I guess if you went over there a couple of times for games, that may make you truly care because you'd have that experience of your team and it may make you fall in love with it. Or maybe if you go to a pub every Saturday morning and get to know all the people there and you at all rooting for a team, I guess that could possibly do it. But outside of that, I just don't get how someone could truly live and die with a team.

I was over there for work a number of years ago and picked a game to attend as sort of a sports bucket list item. I chose based on (1) who was in town/playing at a convenient time and (2) who preferably had a cool stadium with some history. That ended up being Fulham. I've tried to follow them since, but I still find it hard to give a **** . Partly because it's still soccer, Greg.

It can be enjoyable to pick one of the teams bumped up to EPL from the previous season and see if they can avoid regulation. EPL gives me a sport to watch before college football games start and the blowhards on College Gameday become annoying

I've been a big fan of Wrexham since the show came out about 5 years ago. I lose some sleep but I'm up every Saturday watching on Paramount. It's a great story and I fully expect them to make the premiere league after this season.

Granted I don't know what's going on in Big Bend, but this might be the most Corby interaction of all time.
