Though last night the pool was about to overflow. So I opened the drain hose valve. Then forgot to/didn't get back up so this morning it was too low. So guess who is now filling their pool after 7.5 inches of rain in two days.

Dude, just turn the pump off. More rain coming tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday.
My ocd convinced me that my house would not see another drop if the water level stayed below the skimmer.....even though logical me knows better. Had to add a little to at least get it above the skimmer entrance.
I don't have a good drain valve so I have to turn on the Polaris and toss it into the hedges in order to drain the pool timely. Took it down to the bottom of the skimmers before it started raining yesterday evening and the pool still overflowed. I'm in Southlake and we got around 7", probably in my top three for the 22 years I've lived in DFW.
Mine isn't automated either. Kind of a pain to use. Thankful it doesn't come into play all that much. Should have done like you and drained some in the afternoon yesterday.
