Post a pic of the label on your outside unit (the one that shows model # and original refrigerant type), and one of the tag that indicates a possible conversion. A few things are not adding up.
- I'm surprised that anyone was able to source equipment in 2021 still rated for R22.
- If the system was indeed converted to an alternate refrigerant like R407c, then $1000 for a recharge is ludicrous.
- Nearly $800 just to locate a leak is insane.
It may very well be true that replacement of the 14 year old unit is warranted, but I'd get a second opinion first
