Leave a yelp review. He responds to them. Better yet, air your grievances right here. This is a safe space.

I just want out of their "hero club". I've been a member for 10 years. Think I've paid my dues.

Nah, I'll keep it boring. I just want to talk to Jeff offline. But we can keep posting to get it more attention.

Have you tried calling 877-YOUR-HERO? That usually does the trick for me.

On top of that, I am moving and they won't let me out of the agreement.
That's ridiculous. For how many more months are you supposedly on the hook?

I use Hightower Services out of Arlington and they went up to $200 per unit per year. Feel like there's no way $400 a year is smart but I still pay it.

I called them last year when our system wasn't working. They couldn't get to me for 7-10 days. Funny they advertise 24/7 service.

Hightower is literally the worst

I have no complaints about Hightower, just don't know that the maintenance plan is a good idea - even though i pay for it.

Yeah bud, I've called and emailed and can't get passed the $12/hr admin.

Started using them based on Jeff's recommendation on here; so I want to hold him accountable for their crappy service.

I have a new build in Godley with a Reliant AC. They sent some kid out here for a complimentary air balance check. He wiggled the dampers and then stood in each room and said yep it worked. No temp gun, no wait time to let air balance. Claimed he could tell by feel.

I asked a question about the thermostat and he accidentally reset it to factory settings while trying to "show me how it works." He was worthless but was too proud to admit it and talked down to me like I was the idiot. I actually told the guy to leave.

My builder called Reliant on my behalf and asked they send someone else. Second guy was top notch. Found more stuff that I didn't know about, fixed multiple small items, and was gone in 30 minutes.

I registered my unit with them so supposedly I have a 10 year warranty. We shall see.

FWIW just got my second complete new system done by reliant including all new ductwork. They aren't perfect but still way better quality and price than the other companies I have used in the area. Hero club is worth it in my opinion especially for older systems.

So I need advice, please:

Came home from Memorial Day event to an 84-degree house and outside unit is not working. I remodeled house in 202 1 and they put new unit in attic, new coil and new duct work so all 2 years old.

A#1 Air came out for $129 service fee. Technician was very professional. Unit is 14 years old and has R22 refrigerant although there is a tag on it that shows it may have been updated to R4xx. He says there is a refriegerant leak.

He is giving me options to:

1. recharge it at $250/lb (4 lbs minimum estimated $1000) and hope that they can find the leak at the outside unit; he won't guarantee that there is not a leak in the new coil ($794 to try to find it)
2. replace it ($7500/10 year warranty and convert to R410A.
3. replace outdoor unit ($7500/10 year warranty) and replace coil (no estimate)
4. perform search on coil to see if there is leak (aforementioned $794)

Can anyone provide any insight, advice or recommendations. Is there an Aggie-owned company at all?

Thank you so much in advance. I really don't want to spend all this money for a new unit but also don't want to throw good money after bad.

Post a pic of the label on your outside unit (the one that shows model # and original refrigerant type), and one of the tag that indicates a possible conversion. A few things are not adding up.

- I'm surprised that anyone was able to source equipment in 2021 still rated for R22.
- If the system was indeed converted to an alternate refrigerant like R407c, then $1000 for a recharge is ludicrous.
- Nearly $800 just to locate a leak is insane.

It may very well be true that replacement of the 14 year old unit is warranted, but I'd get a second opinion first.

Thank you so much.

  • I just went out to look and can't find the tag he showed me the picture of . Just called the company to get it.
  • Guy who did the work when house was remodeled just got back to me. He will come this afternoon but agreed with your assessments. I trust him, so a much better situation.

I really thank you for your thoughts and advice. I don't call TexAgs the 'source of all knowledge' for nothing!
