With 104.9 the horn losing the sips athletic contract and dropping the 104.9 sports signal and now KOKE Fest being suddenly cancelled.....

Should we expect KOKE FM to close up shop as well? That would be a shame as that is the only local terrestrial station that I listen to anymore.

Seems like they are having financial problems. Saw where earlier this year they got locked out of their building over a rent dispute with their landlord. Jason Nassour who was part owner(not sure if he is anymore) was arrested during the whole Chody debacle two years ago. Has anyone listened to them recently?

I listen for about 20 minutes every morning and enjoy the banter.

Not since they fired Sammy.

KOKE people aren't saying anything other than that they cancelled kokefest.

Now the horn people are strongly implying that they know that their jobs are going away. Some former employees & advertisers have stated so on Twitter and other places.

I appreciate a good grudge but that's going all of the way back to Kvet days.

Ah, my bad. Sammy and Bob were on KVET.
I thought KOKE FM went off the air years ago? My KOKE days go back to AM and Arlie Duff.

You are right it did. Bob Cole & crew brought Koke back after they left/got run off from kvet. Sammie even made a few appearances with them before he died.

I would hate for it to go away. Their mix of classic country, southern rock, and Texas/red dirt music is hard to find anywhere else. Definitely not on any nationally owned/Nashville style country station.

It's probably been close to 10 years since I've listened to any local radio of any kind.

104.9 is going off air? I actually listen to them on occasion. It's enjoyable istening after a sip loss & hearing the Bucky, Rod Babers etc rip into them.

Any idea where all the talking heads will go? Is 1300 AM The Zone still a thing?

Beginning August 2 "The Horn" will no longer air on 104.9 FM

"The Horn" will however continue to air, 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week on AM 1260, 101.9 FM, on the Horn App and at hornFM.com

Regrettably, the coming changes will also include a reduction within our incredibly talented and dedicated staff and bring changes to our weekday and weekend on-air line-ups

Austin Radio Network is a locally owned & operated Radio & Media company. Current economic and market realities, combined with rising operating costs, have forced us to make extremely difficult decisions that we believe will allow for immediate stability,

On August 2, our programming line-up will consist of live, local sports shows, national sports talk from some of the top names in the industry, as well as local and national play-by-play.

To our listeners, clients, friends, and families, we thank you for your unwavering support.

I never knew The Horn was also on 101.9FM, just used 104.9. Sounds like it'll be a lot of syndicated national shows, with maybe a handful of local guys that aren't among the current hosts on the Horn. Their main audience for local shows revolves Bucky and Erin, I assume they end up back on 1300 The Zone since I believe that is where the longhorn sports are headed.

That will depend on whether iHeart wants to hire them.

The horn made a huge mistake right when covid started by changing their lineup and unpairing their best hosts, and then firing them.

The shows since then have been tepid affairs, lost between trying to be the ticket and a exclusive sports station

They also went all in on high school sports, which was a bad choice

I like the HS Football coverage during football season and tu tears are why I always keep an Austin Sports channel in the presets. Hopefully some part of that will stay in the Austin market in the middle of the day and not return to 1 show late in the afternoon like it used to be.

So,

Craig way and his partner
Rob babers and his partner
Zay

Are all for sure gone

That leaves Erin Hogan, bucky, and Chad.

Bucky is the only one left worth listening to

Craig Way said he's still going to be calling all the games (Football, Basketball etc) but won't have a show on the Horn.

1300 will be the Flagship Station again. KVET FM will also carry the Games.

It sounds like Learfield made the decision to move the contract.

Reading between the lines it sounds like some of them are heading to the new ESPN radio station in town. I didn't even know there was one, but apparently two of the old sips from the old am talk station are on there now. Jeff ward and Ed something, I think.

I think Chip Brown is also.

Erin Hogan is staying at the Horn but Bucky isn't.

I haven't heard about the rest.

That's crazy. B and E have been doing a show seemingly forever.

I mostly WFH now, so don't drive as much and don't get to listen to the drive time radio shows much. Guess it doesn't matter, but I always liked B and E radio better than the other Austin radio options.

I agree. It's the only local station I listen to since they left KVET. I don't heart the other ones and their crap pop music.

Yeah, he went to work for Orangebloods.com doing a show on their YouTube account. Truly where he should be.

I think Bucky went there also. Orangebloods live is 3 shows over 9 hours each weekday on youtube live. Billy was on with Ketchum and Chad for about an hour today.

That's a different group. Still just on their own YouTube channel though. Mostly a group of guys that used to work on 104.9. Anything that gets sip Hastings off of the public airwaves is a win for the public in my book.

I've tuned into a few different Youtube Live shows on football during reallignment.

CFB Peak around the corner and BIG 12 Mafia are both a lot of fun and very informative.

The live chats going on make it very addictive.

I've run across Brad Kelner and Trey Elling, and Brad and Kevin Dunn in addition to other things that have already been mentioned. Looks like you can find almost any combination of people that were on The Horn doing show on YouTube.

Hopefully they will figure out how to split off 10 min videos from the live shows like 365 Sports in Waco does so you can get some highlights without having to listen to the whole thing on YouTube.
