Bart, or "Coach" as some call him, has been written about several times throughout the years. Here are a couple blurbs from The Batt, dated 1981 and 2003.

There was an old dude who hung around Northgate, particularly Chipotle, who would talk your ear off if you let him. Some mighty powerful B.O. and a long scraggly beard. Might have been a retired professor? Thinking late 1990s early 2000s…

There has been some ladies, that have it seems like, have the same signs asking for money or food and have two children and homeless. They just seemed to pop up. On corners of university and bypass and can't remember the other location. All out at the same time.

I didn't know his name at the time but I nicknamed Bart "The Cruiser" back in the early 80's. Girlfriend (now wife) & I would frequent the A&M pool to study/relax/catch some rays. Bart was almost always present & would constantly cruise the area for coeds in his maroon shorty-shorts that were the same type that all the boys wore when we were in junior High PE class. BB would like to stop & try to talk to the young ladies. Most of them just ignored him but every now and then, one of them would give him the time of day & he's set down for a spell.

Used to be a regular contributor in letters to the editor in the Eagle, as well. He's definitely a one-of-a-kind-type-of-guy.

Saw him at Kroger on Longmire about a year ago so I assume that he still kicking.....or jogging.....or hanging from a pole somewhere around here.

There was a gentleman with a bicycle that used to sleep under the bridge on Hwy 30 close to Sam's. He used to come in Harbor Freight when I worked there.

Another guy with really bad BO used to live in a car behind Cotton Patch on Rock Prairie. Did not like helping him when he came in

I know nobody will remember this guy, because it's been 15-20 years, and it was close to my parent's house in north Bryan

Old guy with "Texas Czech" stickers on his truck that would stand in front of his house pointing at the speed limit sign whenever any vehicle would drive by. He would always drive 10+ over the speed limit, also

You'll sometimes see an African American gentleman walking down Texas with what appear to be massively swollen legs. I thought he had Elephantiasis for the longest time, but now I'm not so sure.

I think he may just stuff his pants full of his belongings.
I know who you are talking about. Take another look at him the next time you see him. He stuffs all of his belongings into just one leg. It looks like Hulk. The other pant leg is normal.

Nobody's mentioned the guy that with Chevy avalanche he decked out with sheet metal into some sort of tank? He is based out of east gate somewhere.

And I love jogging trash guy. I've seen him as far north as villa maria and as far south as graham. He is everywhere and like the previous poster doing a public service. I've always wanted to ask him what he does with the garbage he collects, I imagine he either has a pile of "collectibles" at home or the cleanest house in town no in between.

Across from the Bryan Cemetery on Texas you'll sometimes see a younger Hispanic guy standing on a concrete slab yelling at traffic.

He occasionally likes to flip you the bird.
He loves it if you "wave" back

I can't tell if he's practicing for the biggest dance recital of his life or karate tournament but he's moving to something every time I pass. I think I've seen a boom box with him on the slab too.

Anyone remember Elijah?

Guy that drove old beat up car around with the Star of David painted on it.
Sometimes pulled a little trailer behind it

Think he was around mid 90's to early/mid 2000's

That preacher guy who would hang out at Northgate almost every night during the weekends. He would help out at Antonio's when the bar closed sweeping the floors and straightening chairs. I have no idea what his name is.

This was from like 2013-2019. He might not be there anymore.

I wonder if that's "Brother John" who used to preach all the time around Rudder, or someone else.

I was a batt photographer and then photo editor about 1991-1992... I did a photo of bart sometime around then.... are these online? Might be fun to remember all the stuff I used to do...

It was about the time the KKK Came around and had their 'rally' at the park on Harvey road. Now THAT was a fun assignment!

How about the white guy who is occasionally at the corner of Villa Maria and Texas? He has some sweet dance moves but also looks like he might just run out into the intersection at any moment.

There's also the black guy who wanders up and down Villa Maria. He looks like he is wearing all of the 5 sets of clothing he owns at one time. I often see him at HEB looking like he just wants to chat.

He used to work at Whataburger on Dominik, back in the 90s.

Saw him driving around west campus today with an American flag and a billboard for a new church in the bed of his truck. The church was in the old Loupots on NG which is a bar now so don't know how valid that is

I think I know that guy but forget his name.
Police are privy to him, as well as he has worn out his welcome in several local restaurants/businesses.
I spoke to him once.
Had this story that he was studying to be an FBI agent.

Brother John still there. Saw him a few weeks ago. Really nice guy.

He told me one time the best day is his life would be when northgate was shut down.

I wonder what he would do with himself if it was?

Yes, Bart was the MSC guy in the shortest shorts ever. Even when short shorts were the style, his were ultra short. He was actually a runner back in the day.

Hung out at the Chicken often in the late 80's and would try to chat up the college girls. He was old then so now....well must be really old.
Bart used to also referee high school basketball in those EXTREMELY short shorts in the early 2000's. One of my former teammates knows from experience.
