Unfortunately, when they release the daily numbers doesn't mean much. We've seen early releases with high numbers, and late releases with low numbers, and vice-versa. It probably just tells us how busy they are on a particular day. The daily numbers are probably not the highest priority.

Sometimes they forget to update the link right away, but if you use the URL from the previous day, and simply change it to today's date, the PDF appears. Already tried that and it says file not found.

Thank you for the update! I mostly breeze through here to see where we are at after lunch and realized I hadn't seen anything.

Thanks again! Cheers!

Trust the Spanish ones. They seem to be more diligent in updating those.

I haven't dug too far into the data, but I was curious about hospital occupancy and our local media's scare tactics from a historical perspective. I came across this site:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/185904/hospital-occupancy-rate-in-the-us-since-2001/

It seems the US averages about 64-65% occupancy, and have seen the number in other reviews as well.

Why is that important?

To me it demonstrates that hospitals tend to hold a high occupancy already, and the fear porn produced is only about 10% on top of what is already in the system. It's possibly meaningless, but still I like to know the starting point.

When kbtx blasts occupancy rates as high as 75-80%, people freak the f out, but to learn what the US historically averages, it somewhat puts it into context that it already is high. Rural units obviously have less, which is good for overall capacity.

Anyways, just something I stumbled across, and food for thought for those that just listen to kbtx. Lastly, I could be wrong on the data, but the historical numbers keep showing up in locations.

It is fear porn, nothing more, and all of the media is guilty of it.

Locally, KBTX has been atrocious about peddling coronadoom. The only thing that could top it would be Bill Oliver from WTAW asking about a "Wuhan Style Lockdown."

Spanish ones are too high (add to more than 100), so went with English.

Has anyone seen cumulative COVID hospitalization numbers for Texas and/or Brazos county? Or can you somehow glean that from the daily census data? I'm curious about the % of confirmed cases that end up hospitalized.

I would take it with a grain of salt, the % is only given with 0.1% precision, English and Spanish shows 6.4% up from 6.3% yesterday... So it could be 6.36 instead of 6.4, or 6.44...

I was just commenting on the raw numbers from today's report. Usually, the bulk is in the 30 and under crowd, but 6 of 17 were in their 60's if i read your SS correctly.

Thanks. I tried to back into it but it seems impossible with the data given. CDC has national numbers - right at 9% of cases end up hospitalized per their data. Would be nice to see how that varies by state/county and age although I realize that data can be unreliable - admitted with COVID vs admitted with something else and then found out they had it. It seems an important bit of information nonetheless.

Just at first glance that seems way too high. Early on most cases were actually confirmed as a result of being admitted to a hospital so naturally it would be skewed to the high side. As time has gone on it's probably been steadily decreasing.

Agreed. We don't seem to be experiencing the same % of hospitalizations here.

This is because most of our cases are under 60 years of age.

I expect an explosion of cases in the next month but hospitalizations will be flat.

If the families had not gone to the media, we probably never would have known, at least from any official source.

Excuse me, this does not fit the fearmongering narrative we've been working on for several months....
Nope, which is why it won't be reported.

Instead we'll hear how many people died in Texas in the last 24 hours, and make it sound like the entire state is burning; when in reality it is one area that is getting it hard and responsible for the big chunk of the cases and deaths.
