Looks like we are road tripping to Palestine for Chris' game on Friday. looks like Jacksonville is a heck of a lot closer to Palestine than CS. Anyway, are there any good spots to eat in Palestine?

That was the closest to the middle between us, other stadiums closer to center aren't large enough in those small towns.

Not that I've found on previous trips to visit family up in northeast Texas...

We often stop at the Braum's in Athens, but that is further north than you are heading so I'm not much help there. Off 45, it is a very pretty area. Watch out for deer!

Drive safe and best of luck to your son and the team.

Edit to add if you like local joints & hamburgers, this place is supposed to be good: https://m.facebook.com/pages/Hamburger-Bar/115494438477360

I may have to stop on my next pass through and try their onion rings.

For those that prefer English over Twitterspeak nonsense:

So our local high school football district has 3 teams ranked in the the top 25 in the state according to Dave Campell's high school football rankings in their classification. CSHS, Temple, and A&M Consolidated. Wow, what a tough district! wonder if any other district has 3 teams ranked in the top 25?

not in 5A or 6A...looking through the rankings

6A has 7 districts with 2 teams ranked in the top 25

2-6A - Permian and San Angelo Central
4-6A - Mansfield and Arlington Martin
7-6A - Duncanville and Desoto
12-6A - Woodlands and Lufkin
21-6A - Atascociata and North Shore
25-6A - Westlake and Lake Travis
27-6A - Judson and Smithson Valley

5A has 6 districts with 2 teams ranked in the top 25

4-5A - Lubbock Coronado and Abilene Cooper
10-5A - Mansfield Lakeridge and Mansfield Legacy
19- 5A - Cedar Park and Hutto
20- 5A - Huntsville and Magnolia West
22-5A - PNG and Port Arthur Memorial
23-5A - Manvel and FB Marshall

While that is impressive, the district is very top heavy. Yes it is a tough district but the bottom half was pretty bad. Bryan, Rudder and University combined for a 5-25 record. There are much tougher districts top to bottom.

And Bryan gave College Station and Consol everything they wanted in those games. Bryan lost games this year because of inexperience at key positions. They will be fine, had a bad year.

tough district yes but that's a stretch. Again I see the district as extremely top heavy with 3 good football teams and a very average Waco team. Just compare district 18 to our neighboring District 20. That district has a outstanding 7-3 Tomball team that beat Richmond Foster and Huntsville not in the playoffs. Also a very good (5-4) Tomball Memorial team who lost to playoff teams Huntsville, Magnolia West and Brenham by a combined 11 points.
In those districts look at the 4th place through last place team. With those teams District 20 posted a 21-26 overall record with Brenham, Tomball, Tomball Memorial, Willis and Waller. District 18 posted an 11-29 record with Waco, Rudder, Bryan and University. That's a .446 winning % compared to a .275 winning %.

Once the playoffs start, it is win and move forward. Best of luck to all area schools for clean competitive games and enjoy the moments. Parents: take pictures and cheer for the players, that is what fans are supposed to do!

Both College Station and Consol should win. 17-AAAAA is a much weaker district. Cougs would get the winner of Huntsville and Georgetown, playing Friday at Consol. Tigers would get winner of Hutto and Brenham, playing Friday in Bryan...likely the Hippos.

I absolutely adore Hutto's mascot name. I have often been a fan of unusual school mascots and they have a great one.

Fun fact: Hutto became the Hippos based on a legend that a hippo escaped from a circus train passing through the area and took up residence. The city has embraced it too with painted hippos outside many businesses. Greatness.

I have seen those when passing through!

That is a fun fact. There are definitely some neat stories behind some of the more unusual mascot names.

CSHS next game is 2:00, Saturday 25th at Waco ISD stadium vs Georgetown, which is #9 against #25 according to this week's MaxPreps rankings. Georgetown pulled up the upset against #7 Huntsville to set up this matchup.

Looks like #21 Consol will play #17 Hutto on Friday night at 7:30 at Waller ISD Stadium

Great job by Consol, CSHS and Temple. Hutto will be a tough "out" for Consol, but I am hopeful that they can get the W.

just FYI...max preps rankings are pretty worthless. Max Preps is a national site and rankings are based off stats pretty much. Use Dave Campbells for more accurate rankings.

Dave Campbell's:
#12 CSHS vs #25+ Georgetown
#18 Consol vs #19 Hutto
Not really that much different...
