How many of these places wanted to open but didn't have sufficient staffing to get decent food to customers in a timely fashion? I doubt all these restaurant operators wanted to forgo a day of sales.
Then they need to make that clear.

Clearly, a lot of posters have never supervised a diverse staff or run a business on a tough day. If there were a bad ice storm and couldn't open would you never go there again? Talk about knee-jerk reactions.
If they were legitimate businesses, it's time to be having job fairs soon.

That is what the sign on the door said with no workers present or lights on.

Cheddars was closed for remodeling. Fish Daddys and Koppe Bridge were both open yesterday.

Did anyone else catch the story this morning on KAGS about Bryan ISD (Crockett Elem, I think) enticing their revenue units to show up by bribing them with a free bag of junk food. I think it was Caliente Cheetos.

Oh, man - this stuff just writes itself.

Yeah, I think some people need to pump the brakes here. Chains like Cheddars and Fish Daddys would not close down for this. Not gonna happen. And I'd say most of Koppe Bridge's employees are college students.

Who goes to any of those places?

I, literally, can't remember the last time I went to any of those places.

Those places are packed every night. The "who goes to those places" crowd must be a bunch of elitist south CS snobs.

More likely the Bryan hipsters that refuse to eat at chains than the south cs snobs.
Can confirm, live in Bryan, do things like play in bands, make art, and get very late brunch. Who goes to any of those places?

Heard Jesse's Taqueria was closed. With as much love and admiration as this board gives that place, how many of y'all are really gonna boycott your precious breakfast tacos??

Jesse's was indeed open yesterday, and even featured on the KBTX report on this. That is why we got breakfast tacos from them this morning instead of elsewhere. Plus, they're big and taste really good.

These leftist lunes, who base their case on non-factual information, cry out that deportation will "separate families." Let's take a drive over to Huntsville, and I'll show you an institution where the "residents" represent families that have been separated. Why? Because the "residents" chose to break our laws. And most of these are American citizens!

Oh yeah, and while we're there, we'll notice that a wall was built to keep them out of society.

To really protest, I would recommend shutting down for a week or two. Even close the shop forever.

That would be a real protest.

A co-worker of mine has a friend that is a waitress at Razzoos and she was called by her boss advising not to come to work. They had to close because the kitchen staff called in. So apparently it was beyond their control.

It is my understanding that another nationwide event is scheduled for May 1st. It seems to me this could really hurt the bottom line of a restaurant that normally only closes 2 days a year Christmas and Thanksgiving, Adding in productive days like 2/16 and 5/1 closings could be a tough go.

IF that is the case, they should be fired.

You probably only have to fire 1 or 2 to get the point across. Then, on May 1 - May Day, the international day of the worker - everyone will be at work. And any other day they're thinking of doing this.

This could also apply to the March 8 day without women strike currently being planned.

If they fire them all, they won't have any cooks. I think that's the point

As pointed out above, those places are packed every night. What do you want a list of names? Normal, non lol-vegans eat at places like those.

This.

I'd call everyone together this morning and inform them that this was unacceptable behavior and that this cost a lot of people on their next paycheck. Then, I'd inform them all that 2 of them will be fired immediately and are there any volunteers. If not, I'd pick out two and tell them to get out and that this is what will happen any time there is another protest.

There is an amazingly high proportion of Native Americans in this thread! Amazing.

It was a "day without immigrants", not "a day without illegal immigrants".

Why was it a "day without immigrants"? What was there to protest as far as legal immigrants are concerned? The news article talked about "fear" in the "Hispanic community". I haven't heard of any policies, suggestions, or the like that would affect legal Hispanic immigrants, have you?

Some people continue to push the idea that if you are not of 100% (capital N) Native American ancestry, then you are not a (small n) native American. Those people are wrong. I am a (small n) native American because I was born in the U.S. and my ancestors go back to the 1600s on one side and the 1800s on the other. As such, I have little patience with illegal immigration in today's U.S.

I have no problem with legal immigrants, respect them greatly, have hired them, and have worked side-by-side with them. They do it the right way and contribute a large amount at work and in society in general.

A day without immigrants was focused purely on illegal immigrants.

From Jesse's Facebook and hour ago:

Jesse's Taqueria & Bakery

There has been some misinformation that we were closed yesterday, "A Day Without Immigrants." As many of you know, because maybe you were there or maybe you saw the interview on KBTX, this isn't true. It doesn't matter if we are Democrat or Republican, our position has always been the same: God said to pray for those in authority over you and that is exactly what we do.
Please consider correcting or deleting your post. Something like this can really hurt a small business family.

You know, just because they were closed does not mean they supported the protest. Maybe they had to close due to staffing issues because of the protest.
