Why was it a "day without immigrants"? What was there to protest as far as legal immigrants are concerned? The news article talked about "fear" in the "Hispanic community". I haven't heard of any policies, suggestions, or the like that would affect legal Hispanic immigrants, have you?
Some people continue to push the idea that if you are not of 100% (capital N) Native American ancestry, then you are not a (small n) native American. Those people are wrong. I am a (small n) native American because I was born in the U.S. and my ancestors go back to the 1600s on one side and the 1800s on the other. As such, I have little patience with illegal immigration in today's U.S.
I have no problem with legal immigrants, respect them greatly, have hired them, and have worked side-by-side with them. They do it the right way and contribute a large amount at work and in society in general.
A day without immigrants was focused purely on illegal immigrants.
