Also did a quail hunt with Mike Schumann outside of Dimebox at Schumann Brothers Outdoors. Had a good time, even though I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn that day. This is my second hunt with him and I've enjoyed both.

Call Clay @ Callaway ranch near Franklin, TX. His @979-224-0452. They are only 30 min from B-CS and have blackbuck, Elk, Whitetail, Axis, pigs and Oryx.

Had a good duck hunt at the Banks Hunting Ranch. Russell is a good Ag and a TexAgs supporter.

My father-in-law, brother-in-law and I all went for a meat bull bison hunt. It was exactly like Kyle described. Bison aren't hard to find or hard to hunt, but it's not easy to get a good shot off on one while they are in the herd. They are also tough to bring down if you don't make a spine or heart shot. We went out in his truck, but you can do the hunt on horse back if you like. The accommodations were very good. Better than any hunting camp I've ever been in, but this place isn't a 5* resort. You will eat dinner with Kyle and his family every night. His wife LeVonne cooks for the hunters and the food is very good. In all it was a great experience and we all had a geat time. I would hunt with Kyle again any day.

I have a comment about a guide. Name is Devlin Roussel with Reel Peace Charters out of Venice, Louisiana.

As soon as we left the dock, he spotted a boat called the "Reel Aggie II" and proceeded to say how much he hated Aggies and their trash. One of the guys in the group said that was great, he had four on board right then. He mumbled.

Besides that, he spent more time yelling at everyone for everything they did wrong than trying to help. We were new at the game, but he made us feel like idiots and said that one more mistake and he would leave us off shore to find a way back (this was for not keeping the rod level, i.e. letting the tip come above the plane of your eyes while fighting a tuna).

We caught some fish, and enjoyed the time with friends, but this guy is obnoxious. I would choose a different guide next time.

Used the reel life in Santa Fe. Went for 2 days so we had different guides. Really liked the first guide named Dan. They have around 10 or 12 guides depending on when you can go. These guys really put us on the fish.

It would be extremely helpful to break it down even further: freshwater, saltwater, bay, offshore etc.

86Pilot - Are there some public lands that require being selected through a drawing, and some that you may just walk in and hunt on your own? I have never deer hunted on public lands but i have for duck/dove. Im just not sure how the deer hunting works.

I just returned from a Mountain Goat hunt with Packhorse Creek Outfitters in British Colombia. They are a class outfit and we worked hard to take a 9 1/2 inch Billy Goat. Really good guides, camps and horses.

I highly recommend Nahanni Butte Outfitters for Dall Sheep and Caribou. They have an abundance of both and put you in reasonable proximity with a helicopter. I had a great hunt and took a 10 1/2 year old Dall Ram and a 380 Mountain Caribou in August. This isn't stand hunting but the use of the helicopter really helps reduce the packing.
