My son and I eat the hell out of venison dry link. Last year we had an entire buck processed in dry link assuming it would last until the next cycle. We have one link left and at least 4 months until we get another batch.

What is the best store bought dry link you have had? I am in Houston, but would drive a few hours to replenish inventory for a few months…..no c store crap.

TIA

Try Chappell Hill Sausage dry links. They are about an hour from Houston and have a restaurant inside. Might call ahead to make sure they have enough if you want a large or order.

Chappel Hill Sausage just over the Brazos river on 290. You can sometimes buy it in HEB in Houston.

I respect your opinion, but when I said no C store recs that was the first one I was thinking of. In my opinion, it is over dried, under stuffed, brittle garbage.

We have New Braunfels Smoke House ship dry sausage to us here in the Ozarks very regularly. We bought from them all the time when living in Texas.
Also Dutchman's.

Gunny, is that a special order you do? Tried looking up dried sausage on their website, and other than brats and such, the only dried sausage I found was snack sticks. Always considered dried sausage to be in links.

I find Praseks to be very good but heck, just my opinion.
In fact much better than B&W and Petes Fine Meats. But i guess if you consider Praseks a C store, then you certainly would consider those both to be C Stores. Therefore, out of consideration.

Bellville Meat Market has some great dry sausage with garlic and another with jalapeno. I buy $80 worth every time we go thru and freeze a good bit of it.

I like some of the meat markets better, but I am pleasantly suprised by the Tillamook zero sugar jalepeno beef sticks I found at Buccees.

Praseks is great, plus you can get it at HEB.

Prasek's - To make it easy for me, I would just trust what HEB has in store. Which is Praseks and a few others.

I do want to say, the best deer dry sausage has been Granzin's. Best deer processor dry sausage I have had so far.

The best processor dry link we have tried is Outback in Harper. That is where we have gone the last 5 years.

Well I was all messed up in my info. Asked the wife and she said we order our smoked hams from New Braunfels Smoke House.
However we had been getting our dry sausage from Dutchman's…… but the last few times we got the sausage from them it tasted somewhat rancid. They started shipping them to us wrapped poorly and no longer kept cool. She called them and voiced her concerns. The next batch was even worse. So she quit them and is now ordering from Millers Meats in Llano.

They sell the shorties at HEB. Good stuff, especially on a road trip.

The best part is when you go into the store, and they have the big rack that is in the process of drying, so you can choose the level of "dryness" you like.

It was a while back, but I remember Dutchman's getting in trouble for not keeping their wild game processing facilities adequately separated from beef processing. I can't remember the penalty they got, but they lost a lot of customers over it.

I'm an Eckermann's dry (outside of Industry, near Shelby, TX) sausage guy.... It's not greasy like some others. I also will do Prasek's or Bellville Meat Market if I can't get Eckermann's. I love Eckermann's dry sticks (like a slim jim but WAY better. Slim Jim is not good, lol), they are the bomb!
