Me and the girlfriend drew javelina at Big Bend Ranch SP! Haven't ever hunted the area before, so we are looking forward to it
Update: No luck on the javelina. Only got to hunt 2 days due to the girlfriend not having enough PTO since they were weekday hunts. For the weekend, we went up a day early to explore the park and hike some of the trails (aka, some scouting on my end). It was BEAUTIFUL!! We will 100% continue applying. We camped 4 nights, hiked some canyons, took the scenic drive from Presidio to Terlingua, and hunted the 2 days we could. We saw 2 mule deer bucks, but never saw any javelina while hunting. The only time we saw javelina was 10:00 PM the night before the hunt in the parking lot of the ranger station when we showed up to shower (there were 10 adults and 10 juveniles nosing around in the gravel near the trash bins). Before we left, only 1 of the 8 people on the hunt had seen any javelina. It was right at dusk and he couldn't take that shot at 300 yards. Another hunter reported seeing some aoudad about 800 yards away and enjoyed watching them through the lens. During our last night, a pretty wicked thunderstorm rolled through and flooded most of the arroyos. Would've loved to stay the extra 1.5 days to hunt, but it left us wanting more and eager to return in the future.
Note: Also saw 3 mules (actual mules, not mule deer), about a dozen cows, the biggest rat snake I've ever seen in my life, and a tarantula that snuck up 8" from my feet while my binoculars were glued to my face. All in all was a great trip away from all the noise. I definitely felt like I was living in another century knowing there were only a handful of hunters on the 300,000 acre park.
