Howdy F34!

I was recently diagnosed with Afib. Doctor says I'm wound up tighter than an 8 day clock and that I need to get off of nicotine and caffeine. I asked him to just go ahead and put a bullet in me, but we've known each other since we were 12...so nope...no dice there.

Well, here I am on a whim, asking if some of you have been able to stop this habit with an alternative herbal snuff. I'm looking for an herbal snuff that looks, smells, tastes like original Copenhagen. Let me know if there is anything remotely close. I've been chewing since I was 8 yrs old; this is no small thing for me. I've still got all my teeth and perfect dental health; save for a crown I had installed last year for biting down on some peppercorn-laced beef jerky and cracking a molar.

TIA for suggestions.

I used Smokey Mountain, got it at HEB when I was quitting. It's a long cut, the texture is a little smoother than real snuff but not bad.

Hang in there, the pain of quitting is real.

There was an advertiser that posted on the OB one time about, I think, it was like a hemp smokeless tobacco. I was really interested in it, but we all asked if we would pee hot on a drug test after using their products and it seemed that the answer was yes. If you don't have to worry about drug test, it seemed like a decent alternative.

Does anyone remember the company, or even the post I am talking about?

I have good news and bad news. The good news is there are a TON of herbal snuff offerings (Smokey Mountain, Black Buffalo, Outlaw, Fully Loaded, etc). The bad news is (in my opinion) none of them will taste like Copenhagen no matter what they say. I used Smokey Mountain when I quit Cope and ended up liking the grape flavor the best. The nice thing is most of these companies will let you have samples or at least sell a sample pack with different flavors.

Good on you though for deciding to quit!!!

ETA - I really liked Black Buffalo but the flavors that I liked only came in pouches and I hate pouches.

I found these were pretty satisfying, plus, the mint left my breath smelling minty fresh. I love the cinnamon flavored one. Good luck, you can do it!

Try the Spitfire and Spitfire 7. Kind of gives you that familiar burn like Copenhagen. Worked for me.

I ran by HEB to pick up a can of Smokey Mountain. They had wintergreen and peach. I picked up a can of each. I'll give these a go. I appreciate the suggestions.

It was called Artisan Grange. It was the nastiest crap I have ever put in my mouth. It tasted like glue. Basically the only flavor was the pouch material itself, not the contents of the pouch. I fought my way through one can and threw the other 4 away un-opened.

For a real suggestion, I liked the Grinds brand coffee pouches. Are they like Copenhagen? No, but they do taste good, and it is something to put between your cheek and gum.

My uncle quit by buying dried cloves and putting a pinch size of them in when he had a craving. I tried it and it wasn't bad. Tastes like cinnamon and will make your breath smell good. When the flavor runs out you just spit them out or chew them up and eat. He claims they have gut health benefits as well.

I tried Smokey mountain once and immediately gagged and started dry heaving. If anyone ever created a herbal snuff that was even close to fresh cope they'd make a killing.

My brother quit nicotine and he liked the Outlaw Dip Fat Cut which is tobacco and nicotine free. He said the flavors and texture were the closest to Cope.

Herbal stuff sucks. Doesn't pack and is messy.

Just think about Logs big toe and ask yourself if you want your jaw to look like that.

I doubt this would help me. I'm addicted to nicotine, not having something in my mouth (ahem).

I've tried em all. None of them pack. Which...resulted in me using the pouches. I ended up using Alpha pouches, which I like the best

If someone would invent a good Tobaccoless long-leaf alternative to redman/Levi...I'd personally make them a millionaire buying the stuff.

This is what I used when I was starting not dipping.

The classic and whiskey flavor were the ones I liked the best. IIRC, the whiskey was the one that was most like Cope to me but it's been 10+ years now and I can't remember for sure.

If somebody is wound up tighter than a drum, odds are adding a shot of caffeine isn't going to be ideal.

The coffee stuff was OK IMO, but I didn't go through it fast enough before it started drying out and became damn near abrasive on my gums.

When you start not dipping, you get over the nicotine aspect in about 3-4 days. The rest is the mental aspect of having a pinch of snuff, and that is absolutely the hardest thing to get over because there are so many Pavlovian actions that go into taking a pinch that you dont' even realize you have until you consciously try not to do it anymore.

Everything in moderation. I'd start by mixing some of the herbal stuff into your Copenhagen.

This is where the shredded beef jerky comes into play. You remember from when you were a kid, the jerky that comes in the dip can? It is the same exact motion that Schmellba is talking about.

Pulling the can out, then packing it, to opening the can and taking the pinch. It was probably the single thing that helped the most.

Any update? I doubt the dip is making any impact to your overall health.
