I don't understand. What took them so long before realizing maybe they should leave? Weird.

Do they have a GoPro mounted on the stern light?

It's almost as if they went out in it just to get the video and clicks...

Why wouldn't they drive away from that ? Possibly in a enclosed bay but would be hauling arse away from that

Being out on the water in a storm is at or near the top of my list of things that freak me out. I've been caught in one not far from where that video is near the jetties at Sabine Pass.

Makes me sick thinking about it haha

I live in Beaumont. Bad weather was predicted that afternoon. Line of storms moving West to east. This tornado traveled a long way. At least 30 miles before it got to sabine lake. This wasn't a pop up thunderstorm. They should have known better. Out on sabine lake and surrounding areas you can see along way, probably 10 to 15 miles so they knew this was coming even without checking their phones.

Was in POC camping out at the SP in Espritu Santo in Jan. Cast and blast several yrs ago. No we didn't do the SP hunt on the island. We went to Long Lake and limited out by 9a and knew there was a front coming in late morning. We make it back to the SP w/ light rain coming down and wind starting to kick up and an angry sky to the NW.

We had made friends w/ a couple of guys and their young boys the night b4 and they were on the SP island hunt that morning. They had a brand new probably $80K bay boat. They were back from their mosquito infested hunt w/o any birds and the front arrived w/ 40+mph winds and sideways rain. 4ft swells in the bay. I had tied the boat up at the docks behind the sheet pile breakwater that the feds had built several years earlier. 4 lines to each side of the docks so the boat wouldn't slam against it.

I knew we just had to ride it out on the island b/c I'm lol poor and wasn't about to get out in that in my little boat. I tried to convince our new friends to do the same, but they wouldn't have it. They were running around trying to get their tents and gear packed up while I sat in the rain and tried to console their 8-10 y/o boys that it would be OK. They were balling their eyes out. Dads threw what was left of their gear into their nice brand new 20' or so bay boat and off they went into 4' swells.

We waited for the storm to pass and packed up our gear and I'm proud to say our tent didn't blow away like theirs did. We crossed the bay w/ barely a ripple and arrived at Froggy's.

I was happy to see our new friends at the top of the ramp after leaving the island over an hour behind them. The boys were happy to see me and I asked them how the ride was. "Rough" one of them said. The other said "scariest thing in my life and I couldn't see a thing". I told them it was an experience they'll never forget and they could tell their grandchildren about it.

Their Dad's were surprised to see that we made it back as they were pulling their boat out and didn't want to talk about it.

Good times...

It looked like they got blown into the reeds? Might have saved their lives. Much rather be there than open water.

Their raw video is even worse than the clips on twitter. Starts out with them effectively at the boat ramp with the one guy saying he doesn't like the look of the storm on the horizon, that it looks like a tornado and that his phone alert went off. Then he gets his rods, gets back in the boat, and then they basically sit there while the storm comes straight at them. Does show still photo of the flipped boat at the end.

The dog has more brain cells than both of those morons put together. It's looking for a safe spot, they're screwing around with rain gear.

Probably 20 years ago now, we left out of Port A at about 6 am and dodging little popcorn storms which is not difficult nor unusual. About 6 hours later and 30 miles offshore the entire area was storms surrounding us with no direction to head for clear skies and fishing was great on a weed line.
Suddenly things got hairy and before the day was over we counted 15 water spouts, a few as close as 50 yards away. It wasn't that we were daring or stupid, but that far out and no clear direction to head, you just as well stay where you are.

And this is exactly what it was like before we all had up to the minute weather radar in the palm of our hands. Living on the coast - people used to get caught off guard by a cold front that was moving faster than predicted. Back when they got weather updates 3x a day - 5:30am, 6pm, & 10pm. Depending on where someone was in the bay, and they were blessed if they were in the bay, they might not be able to make Port and have to run for a spoil bank, SPI, or a sheltered flat for safety. In 2024 - we can't claim ignorance with the technology available.

I'm surprised these fellows didn't put on PFDs or run for cover earlier. IMHO they dodged a serious bullet here. For those who haven't followed the X link to the full FB video: the boat is eventually driven up into the reeds and capsized by the force of the wind. You don't see it capsize, but there is a still photo of it shiny side up. It appears they were able to flip it back over and there is another photo of the bigger fella on the phone with standing in the reeds with the boat upright.

More than weather app at the time I wish that I had a camera. We never felt threatened and were not very worried. Kept a constant eye out looking straight up to hopefully keep a spout from coming down on top of us.
A friend h got hit by a waterspout and really messed up his rigging.

As someone from the golden triangle this behavior does not surprise me in the least. We pretty much stopped boating around all holidays or weekends we thought there would be too many idiots on boats on the water. Most of them can't afford the boats they're on, let alone the consequences of their poor decisions on or off the water. They posted this footage because they thought it was cool, not realizing it was proof of their idiocy.

We got caught in the Landcut April 1995. Cold front expected Monday and came in Saturday afternoon. Stayed with some guys in a hut on one of the islands before caravanning back to bird island on Sunday. We were originally taking water over the bow headed in on Saturday before being flagged down.

We are so quick to judge without all the facts. Thank God that they live to see another day!

Mark 4:35-41 KJV
And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

I'm sure that some of you and even I have done things in our lives that when we look back to see only the hand of God saved us from that storm, or struggle, or sinful act. May we learn from it all to thank God first for we too have been saved from our own storms and foolishness.

We have 2 ears and one mouth for a reason.

James 1:19-20 KJV
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

The first two minutes of this video are enough facts. They knew what was coming and did it anyway, most likely for clicks.

When I was 17 or 18, my best friend was loaned a boat for a couple weeks. He and an another friend of ours wanted to go fishing in Trinity Bay the next morning. I was to go along as well.

I was a little bit leery because I knew that if we had any trouble with the boat, my buddy couldn't fix it, and I was used to being on the water with my dad who could fix anything, anywhere. Plus, I had no knowledge about this boat and possible issues it had experienced. We had all been out prowling until 1am or so, so in light of all this and not wanting to get up early I told them to count me out. The guy with the borrowed boat was pretty hard core so he and the other guy were still going to go.

The next day I was out in the woods doing something and the sky began to darken so I headed home. A terrible storm pushed through, black, black skies, high winds, terrible rains. This happened way back before cell phones or the Weather Channel, back before the everyday fascination with all things weather related. This storm only lasted about an hour or less, around 1pm or so. A couple hours later I got a call from my friend's younger sister asking where he was. She thought I was with them and had seen my truck at home so figured they were around somewhere. I had completely forgotten they were on the water so I told her they were supposed to be fishing and that I did not go. She said he was supposed to be home around noon.

I went to the boat ramp where I knew they were most likely to have put in, pulled into the place, saw his truck and trailer, and there sat an ambulance, lights flashing but no siren. I thought the worst, got a sick feeling in my stomach. Looking that way, but not wanting to see what I feared. Then I noticed him and our buddy sitting in a boat that had just been towed to the ramp. Someone in another boat had drowned, hence the ambulance.

Come to find out, when the storm came up, they couldn't get the motor to start. Rode it out and they said the lightning was very close to them, over and over again. After it passed, they tried the motor again, no luck, so my buddy, Mr. Hard Core, said "might as well fish until someone comes by to tow us in." lol

i had another friend drown in Trinity Bay. He was on some sort of work boat and they got caught in bad weather. The others made it but he didn't.

Am I the only one that would have been putting on a life jacket in that spot? Or is that the wrong thing to do. Maybe? I don't know. The entire thing seems stupid to me.

The idiots decided to do this and now are viral. We used to call this Darwinism, now we call it influencers going viral. They went out on the lake when there was 100% chance of bad storms, you could see the storm coming, and spent minutes getting on gear (piss poor gear too).

The team I was with out in Trinity Bay & Anahuac's wildlife refuge used inflatable PFD's that aren't easy to see...unless you fall in the water lol.

Im struggling to understand how they were not carried away with '160mph' tornado winds. My parents had a palm tree ripped from the ground in San Leon over the weekend from the tornado that went through Bacliff/San Leon. And these guys are on a boat and nothing?

That aside, they should never be allowed to own a dog again.

If that was me in that boat I'd have on the biggest orange lifejacket you ever saw. Then I'd put on another one on top of it.

I'm going to guess those dimwits had nothing

Is it just me but if a F3 tornado hit a small boat like that I believe it would actually pick them up and toss them. They most likely were not directly hit but adjacent to it. Still scary though.
