They are rutting pretty good right now. Seeing new bucks moving through and my does are spread out.

Lost the blood trail after an hour of tracking. Probably ended up being a muscle shot.

Just wanted to update this and say he survived and we met again this past Saturday morning. Apparently I hit him in the front leg the first go around and he was able to make it around for 3 weeks.
Perfect shot second time around, when I gutted him the heart & lungs were disintegrated. Looks like he also got into it with another buck between visits because he is missing a brow tine. Taxidermist said he could add it back for me.
I love the ending to this story!

I just shot a hog with an old WW2 Mauser rechambered to 30-06, and watched him lay dead for about 5-10 minutes. Climbed out of the blind to take a pic and he was gone. Turns out he was just mostly dead.

Guy I hunt with shot an aoudad, pretty good size ram too, in the head with a .270. It somehow jumped over the hog panel and basically died stuck between to the panel and barb wire suspended in the air….
He went down to check it a few minutes later (without a rifle - dumbass) and when he put his boot on the aoudads snout/head, it miraculously came back to life and sprinted off into the hills. We had pictures of that ram about a mile away the next week with blood down his face. Still find that situation hilarious

I shot a nice big male coyote this morning... but since then have had to put down a calf and a horse, that's definitely not the kind of shooting I enjoy.
I've got my almost 8 year old daughter, 6 year old and 4 year old boy with me in a blind in Mills County this evening. 3 tablets going. I'll give it 30 mins before one days they are bored. Hoping for a doe, spike, or pigs to show. At least it's not 33 degrees like it was this morning. Didn't bother taking any of them out in the cold this morning. Good luck to all hunting this evening. Well they made it about an hour and a half and I ran them back to camp and came back. They got to see a small doe and what I thought was a spike but he has some brows forming once I got the binos back from my 4 year old.

McCullough County again this morning. I've never felt a warmer 36 degrees. It feels great.

Callahan County. Nothing so far this morning but the cameras caught them eating last night. Was a clear morning with beautiful star gazing.

Daughter got her first deer today. We stalked this deer 500 yds. Then she made an incredible 250 yard double lung shot to drop him. 6.5 did its job. Tx panhandle.
