We have a problem with sandburs. If I apply pre-emergent now, is that going to carry over and prevent germination of any Bermudagrass seed I try and plant next spring/summer?

Best time for that is late Jan early February depending on where you're located
And what you plan on using ?

No it will not. Sand burs began to germinate when the soil its 53 degrees and is rising. If you are going to put out a pre-emergent for sandburs it is best to put out in late Jan early Feb time frame. Go to Greencast, put in you zip code and you can track the soil temptures in your area there. If you have pastures, Rezolin will stop them cold. However the product is expensive. I get mine at Producers Coop. in Bryan. If you want to speak with someone who is very knowledgeable on the issue, stop by Producers Coop or call and speak with Dr. Bill Lazby.

If you are both wanting to use Bermuda seed, and prevent grassbur germination, that's going to be a problem.

And as mentioned, typically pre-emergents are put out in late Jan thru February, some remaing active for a couple of weeks, some (Rezilon) active for up to 90 days.

Ok. I've been told before to do pre-emergent in the fall and spring, but I wondered why in the fall.

I have dirt and sandburs right now and id like to have a lawn of some type by the end of next summer. (Likely putting it up for sale).

And my budget probably isn't going to allow for sod.

Any advice is appreciated.

Pre-emergents are often recommended for fall application, to prevent a variety of winter / early spring weeds. Grassburs not included...

Better make that trip to see Dr. Bill at Producers if you are working on that timeframe. Rezilon is not for lawns. My experience in lawns it takes a few years to get rid of grassburs. Attached is a link you may find helpful.

Do you have any Bermuda at all?
Rezilon mentioned is the same as esplanade amongst other names

Best advice is to fertilize the hell out of it and get weeds in check and mow often
Patience if you can't afford to re sod

I don't know how big of a yard you're talking about but you can get a pallet of grass for under 200

Some Bermuda. Some Zoysia. A lot of sand and sandburs. Not a huge lawn. Maybe 5,000-7,000 sq ft total.

I'll check into sod pricing. That might be the most efficient option even though it will cost more.

I had a large outbreak of grass burrs in my pastures this year. I spoke w/my county agent about a remedy. His suggestions were the same as above. Apply in the Spring (Valentine's Day) and fertilize.

Spray everything with glyphosate then throw seed down once it's all killed if you aren't going to sod. You aren't going to be able to put a pre-emergent out while you're trying to get seed to germinate or grass to root.

Celsius wp is a good post emergent for grass burs. Msma will also smoke them but may damage bermuda grass.

I use Nelson's Carboload Fall and Pre-emergent for my celebration Bermuda yard to give it a jolt once spring growth occurs. All the Nelson's lines of fertilizer are top notch. Check them out

With lots of sand you will need to water more often and topdress with some mushroom compost or manure based compost. If using chicken manure compost mix with a little more topsoil because it can burn your grass.
Hope this helps
