Mixed bag yesterday morning in central Texas. Had some, gaddwall, ring necks, and even a hooded merganser. Didn't get a pick of all the ducks but here is what my son got. Cold and windy with a 12 degree wind chill. Also, if shooting light would have been about 10 minutes earlier, we would have slaughtered them. Had probably 75+ birds come in just before shooting light.

Maggie and I braved the 17F weather this morning. Windchill was probably in the singles. The tank dam was a great protector though. Didnt have to brave it long, we had 6 shots 6 ducks by 740. A public limit is always nice. We had only seen 7 ducks at that point.

4 mallards circled but saw her running the bank with the 2nd teal from a double.

1.5 mile walk into a pond on the edge of the lake. A boater was headed to the same spot and continued on. I talked to him on my walk out his motor had died as I walked by, he was headed back to the ramp but he was able to get back underway.

Managed to scratch out the first hunt of the season at the duck lease today, and the last. Shot at two gadwalls, got one. He was good--pan fried in olive oil with salt and pepper this evening.

The color and look--even on the gray ducks--is always a treat.

Skunk this morning. If memory serves, that's a first from my blind. Had one wood duck sneak past us and that was it. Still nice to be out in it. I wouldn't be able to stand not going.

Slow but pretty morning.

Solo goose shoot. They've been hitting the next field over pretty hard, but had to settle for permission in the neighbors. Hopefully I can pull a little traffic over

Ended season strong with a 4 man limit. Mostly Greenwing but got our pintails too. Pics to follow.

Update: birds cooperated beautifully and decoyed right over my head, yet I couldn't shoot the broad side of a barn. Knocked down these 3, but called it knowing it should have been a solo limit. Still my favorite hunt of the year though, they don't drop in like that very often!

Two spoonies and a green wing. Hesitated on some early opportunities, maybe could've added another one or two.

Spent a few days at the coast. Hunting was pretty good during the week. Weekends were a lot tougher. It was clown show on Saturday. Skybusters were out there in force. I counted at least 30 shots after sunset Saturday evening.

Redhead numbers seemed down this year but as always several flocks hit the spread. A few pintails actually came in and really liked the spinner. Kind of surprising for late season.

Got a few coastal green heads too

Came back home for the weekend and had a good hunt this morning.

Next year, if they get consistent, and you feel motivated, I might could be convinced to bring my MLB, Lake Erie style, pumpkin seed layout boat down to the coast. It's a cure for blind and bank shy divers.

Like this. The best way to hunt divers. I've got a woefully underutilized lay out boat and a massive long line dover spread i should probably try and use next year.
