Its been slow slow! Really only seeing wood ducks.

We shot 15 woody's this morning. Got one out of a group of three teal. Messed up on a pair of mallards and that was it.





Proper use of a Tuesday!

Hopefully this cold weather will push them south.

Like dozens and dozens of them. At first I thought I was seeing a bunch of sleeping birds, until I saw several belly up & washed up on the field edge. Head scratcher for sure.

I'm afraid you're probably right. And that sucks. 1st CWD, now Avian flu. I may have to take up coon hunting

Heading north. Rolling through Dallas early Sunday morning is really nice.

Starting off with two new lakes. Might have to migrate back south mid week if the ice is bad. Hate trying to pattern birds in that crap.

And thank God for bucees bathrooms.

I can confidently say, there are no ducks in eastern Oklahoma. Three days scouting three lakes. Burned up the lower unit on the pro-drive 10 miles from the boat launch after dropping my buddy off to hunt 5 miles from the launch, got the truck stuck, walked about 100 miles in waders, did battle in the dark with some nasty button brush thickets, found some amazing looking spots, and shot one pintail. Lots of feathers and hulls and stories about how good it was the first split and Thanksgiving weekend.

In spite of the kick in the nuts, still had a good time and can't wait to try again.

Was in Kansas for a few days this past week in the same spot I was last year at the same time.

Wayyy less mallards. Just got wood ducks and teal.

Also got on pheasant and quail.

First time duck hunting our place in Bandera county. Had a short sit before church this morning. Both myself and my lab are pretty inexperienced duck hunters. Saw a lot more than I expected for Bandera but was distracted yelling at my dog that's apparently afraid of duck decoys.

He's a great dove dog (for as little as I've trained him) so we'll see if we can get him to figure out how to retrieve a duck for me. I still allowed him to pose for a picture for some positive reinforcement.
