Didnt see a single duck that wasnt a wood duck this morning. Hunt was cut short by my buddy that couldnt keep his eye off the pile of oyster mushrooms growing in the top of a willow.

Had to get the proper tools.

Anybody seeing birds? Our place near Markham is still a ghost town. I haven't been down since the opener and my brother has resorted to killing snakes and trapping nutria for entertainment.

I haven't hunted since right before Christmas but will be back down there this weekend. Reports look like birds are still in the area but last two weeks looks like numbers are down a lot. I am hoping we get a big influx of ducks with the freezing temps up North. We should but who knows how many will actually stay down for the rest of the season.

My Deerlease in Mexico would normally be covered up with hundreds if not, thousands of ducks, and there is hardly a single bird on any of our lakes right now

Drove to Wisconsin and back for Christmas (Dec 20-30). All the grain fields were open and without snow when we left Wisconsin, and almost all the water was back to being unfrozen.

TONS of geese there and tons of ducks in MO and AR, they also recently got really heavy rains flooding lots of fields.

I don't expect that we'll see a big push the rest of the year unless the polar votex actually comes through and freezes everything up.

It is going to be freezing by Monday here (forecast lows). Not sure how far south it will continue to freeze but it will push birds down from the Dakotas, Nebraska, KS, and OK.

Our club properties from Eagle Lake to El Campo have been empty.

Was there any rice on those properties this year? With irrigation water not available to many rice farms, birds won't stay in the area long between cold fronts like they did before. And with fewer acres overall in the area, hunted fields have more pressure with fewer roost areas. This has been our experience on the East side for years now having drastically fewer acres of rice and flooded harvested fields.

Our properties on the coast have held more birds most of the season. We have had a couple of weekend outliers where several thousand birds were stacked up north though.

Lots of ducks have been showing up on my spot in the hill country. There have been a ton of wigeon but a little more variety lately.

We're members of Riceland. We generally have decent water. Think we're way over hunted for the members to blind ratio. The club ownership got sideways with one of the property owners for one of the biggest and best leases they historically had right before the season and we lost access to it.

All in all, weather has sucked for migration this year and my group wants to look around at other clubs.

I was on riceland a few years ago and got off because it was so bad. BHC is definitely better. Thunderbird seems to be the best, but I'm not paying that kind of money for duck hunting. Right now I'm just hunting drainage for various farmers that I know because my group fell apart, but everyone I talk to says it's been a rough season. I normally hear one of La bahias ponds from my back porch and it's been silent all year

I think there are 2-3 guys that used to hunt THC on Riceland. Pretty good dudes too if I am remembering correctly.
