Love my Surefoots but I also knew exactly what I wanted and needed before I walked in and I get a huge discount. They cater to tourists because they get things done w convenience and try to make you think it's a one stop shop. It's not. Boot fitting is a process and shortcuts never work to your advantage. They tried to plus me up one and I had to tell them not only do I not want mondo +1, I want mondo -2, I want splints, the specific toe box size, etc. I legit told them don't even bring it if it's over a 24.5 because I don't want it. They kept being like "dude you can't ski a 24.5 that's a womens size and its not even possible, you can't even get your foot into it." and im just there thinking yeah ok, where did you learn to ski? $20 says none of them ever skied gates on +1 mondo but if they did they sucked.
I want it so tight I can't feel my feet. I want them so tight I have to unbuckle at base. I want them to be comfortable on the foot bed but so tight they go numb because I don't want one iota of movement. They couldnt wrap they're mind around it but made them for me anyways.
With all that said, I love my boots BUT yeah you can get an equal or more amount of work done by a professional boot fitter who will spend the time to match your foot to a boot perfectly usually for far less than you'll pay a high school senior to size you enter the data into a computer and mold you at SF. I've also found their foam goes flat pretty quick and if you go w SF buy some tape or else you're gonna get the lange leak on a $2000 pair of boots which to me is insane.
Last thing you want is to spend 2k on boots and by the 10th day have your foam flat and your foot floating around like a dead fish which had 0 solution at that point except a completely new liner.
Just my opinion but you should always be at least mondo -1. I've never in my life understood the mentality of skiing your size or heavens to betsy a +1. That's cozy in the store and miserable up top. I'd rather have miserable in store and functioning like I need up top. Movement in your footbed is how you get hurt because it craps on your propeoception.
Tight boots prevent shin bang and losing your toe nails and make skiing much much easier.
